Cleaning/Lube Questions

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, Well I finally got that gun I had been wanting....Thank you tax return :D. Ended up with a used M&P9c from a fellow TGO'er...Thanks!

Anyways, I got a question for you guys. Since it will be a couple days before I get to shoot it, I had to play with my new toy this evening...haha. Went by walmart and got a bottle of Hoppes #9 solvent, a pistol cleaning kit, and some remington gun aerasol spray oil(Is this stuff OK?). I decided I would practice stripping, cleaning, and lubing the gun. I found what looked to be a good detailed "how-to" on youtube...this one(this is the first of 5)

.

When you guys are using the solvent, do you use it just inside the barrel? Or do you use a solvent soaked pad for cleaning/wiping off the entire gun?(does a polymer frame change anything?)

Also, I have noticed in reading that quite afew of you guys use grease for your slides. What kind of grease is good to use for this?(and easy to get)

Anything else I need to know(that I may overlook) on cleaning/lubing this gun as well?

I generally use solvent in the barrel first and let it soak for at least 10 minutes or so. Then I use a solvent soaked pad for wiping down the outside of the barrel and slide or anywhere else where there is powder residue.
