Frank didn't embellish at all in his description of Buford. Ask Buford..he'll tell you himself. He's a self described a$$hole.

People either like Buford...or they don't. I took the class from him, i don't remember the odd shooting stance, but I know he does teach it. It might be something I've forgotten after having different classes.

I've been told by people not on this board who had brought him in for private training, and asked him to leave about the time he started in with that stance. And yes...the people in question are Operators if you want to throw that term around. Buford is (in my opinion) one of the "problems" getting TFA rolling in Nashville. I personally don't have a problem with him. However after speaking to several people in and out of the gun training business, when I convince my wife to take the class it won't be one of his.

I don't understand why people think just because someone is in the same business that they're automatically bashing their competitors for some type of monetary gain. truth is, I don't think the professional gun trainer community is that big in Middle TN. They're going to know about their peers, people talk. It isn't always gonna be good.

My Dad always told me if you have nothing good to say just say nothing. So ................. .............

Tom in TN

My Grandmother always told me that as well.

Since I believe that the First Amendment is just as vital as the Second Amendment. I will defend your right to your opinion, but my Dad always told me that opinions are like a##%%%%s, everyone has one.

I'm through here.

After twenty years of classes in Nashville area (student-armed) and using at least five

of the schools I would say go with Buford, did not like the guy but learned more in one

weekend than previous 18 years of classes. If it is cold and windy so what are you only going to use your weapon inside at seventy degrees? Dress warm and waterproof it

will do you good.

Can't add much new info, but I will give you my experience with Buford.

Buford is a blowhard and like to talk about himself but I thought it was a good class and worth the time. And yes he did raise his eyebrows when he checked my firearm, Kahr P9, at the range. Gave that only a dumbass wouldn't carry a sp101 look but didn't say anything except to make sure to practice with it.

There's my .02 FWIW.

Ok, let's sum this up.

Opinion

1. Buford is an a$$clown

2. Buford has a problem with obscenity and propriety

3. Buford embellishes himself to be more than he was

4. You will likely be insulted in his class

5. You will be shown a method to shoot that is not accepted or will not be used after the class.

6. You will be belittled unless you shoot a Ruger SP-101, preferably bought from him

Conclusion

1. There are many other trainers with impeccable, recent credentials that are professional, courteous, that will give as much training in a better arena and may have an indoor range

2. You will pay to be miserable on an outdoor range in the heat of the summer and the cold of the winter

3. You will have a long drive to the range, which is Smyrna

4. Although the class is two days, if only the course material was taught, the class would be one day

5. You will be yelled at on the range by unqualified range "help"

6. Buford's endless self promotion and belittling other trainers has caused a small number of folks to prefer and recommend him

7. Most of Buford's many credentials hung on his wall are from 25 years ago

8. You would not want your wife, daughter, or Pastor to go to his class

When adding up positives against the negatives,,,,,,,,,,

My experiences with Buford are excellent. I took my carry permit class from a different school, but when my wife (British) decided to take the class, I researched classes and found out about APPS. Everyone I talked to, talked highly of APPS. I sat in on the class with her when she took it, and learned for more than I had before. She enjoyed the class and has recommended it to her hairdresser and everyone she meets. Her hairdresser enjoyed it and also has recommended it.

Since then, We have taken several other classes from APPS and have enjoyed and learned from each of them. I hope he is still teaching when my young daughter is old enough.

Folks, do you think we've about done this topic to death?

I certainly didn't mean to start such a hemorrhoidial topic. Apparently, I touched on a sore spot. I apologize for that. However, I've definitely received enough answers to re-make my initial decision and am thankful I asked.

The horse has definitely been beat. I don't know if he's dead... but he's been beat.

It was a good topic. No problem with that. We think we need to review all the trainers. Some are very good and some are dip-heads. Information is what the board is about.

But after a while the info/opinions/conclusions get posted and don't need to be restated endlessly. If there is new info, then fine.
