I'm not an Obama fan, not even close but...

I am 41 years old and the only gun friendly president I can remember is Bush Jr.

Reagan didn't do much if any better than Clinton if you count having the Brady Campain coming out of his administration darn near makes those two a tie in my opinion.

Honestly I haven't seen the party that is for MY freedom yet. If I do I'll join.

I'll say that Brady came from Brady's wife and some smart democrats, but Reagan didn't have anything to do with Brady except that Brady was his Press Secretary or Chief of Staff(?) Sarah Brady is the driving force in the Brady Bill. Reagan did sign a gun bill I don't like at all

and I don't remember what else he was trying to do that

the Dems were stalling him on. The Firearm Owners

Protection Act of 1986, I think. It was the one that ended

the purchase of new machine guns, or at least closed up some loopholes in that.

The Republican Party is the only one for your freedom. If

truly believe otherwise then vote Democrat and see what

else happens. Republicans need to be kept on the straight and narrow, which is something that has been lacking lately, but the platform is sound, and the Tea

Party movement is calling them on it, promoting conservatives to run against liberal republicans.

Think about fixing a couple problems rather than giving

up on a party.

This was the first mistake.....

As for the Obama being the worst- I think this is the biggest case of Buyers Remorse that our country has ever seen.

Sure, they all wanted hope and change now they got it.

The quote I heard was if you aren't a liberal by the time you are 25 you have no heart. If you aren't a conservative by the age of 35 you have no brain.

I got a brain when I was in my late 20's.

Winston Churchill, I'm pretty sure, said this one.

I like to think I had my brain at 16. I was the only Nixon lover in the group I hung with. Boy did I pay dearly for that.

I got some of this info off the web so some of it must be true:

Anti-gun crusaders seem worried about the advent of a Republican administration. Heaven knows why. Republicans, in recent years, have managed to do nearly as much damage to the Second Amendment as Democrats.

In 1969, journalist William Safire asked Richard Nixon what he thought about gun control. "Guns are an abomination," Nixon replied. According to Safire, Nixon went on to confess that, "Free from fear of gun owners' retaliation at the polls, he favored making handguns illegal and requiring licenses for hunting rifles."

It was President George Bush, Sr. who banned the import of "assault weapons" in 1989, and promoted the view that Americans should only be allowed to own weapons suitable for "sporting purposes."

It was Governor Ronald Reagan of California who signed the Mulford Act in 1967, "prohibiting the carrying of firearms on one's person or in a vehicle, in any public place or on any public street." The law was aimed at stopping the Black Panthers, but affected all gun owners.

Twenty-four years later, Reagan was still pushing gun control. "I support the Brady Bill," he said in a March 28, 1991 speech, "and I urge the Congress to enact it without further delay."

One of the most aggressive gun control advocates today is Republican mayor Rudolph Giuliani of New York City, whose administration sued 26 gun manufacturers in June 2000, and whose police commissioner, Howard Safir, proposed a nationwide plan for gun licensing, complete with yearly "safety" inspections.

My point is that just because a politician proudly supports the "Republican" tag doesn't mean they aren't going to bite you hard.

It's the enemy from within that will destroy you. or something like that.

I'm not giving up on the party, I haven't had a party since Theodore Roosevelt.

A little sarcasm here...I'm not giving up on the party, I haven't had a party since Theodore Roosevelt. Teddy R. was a huge...huge PROGRESSIVE. I like him too, but a LOT of his policies were way out of step with conservative thought back then.

I would like to think that is why J.D. Hayworth is challenging John McCain in his senate race, and Marco Rubio is challenging Crist in Florida. Fixing a problem is much better than erasing everything and starting over. The Republican platform is sound, but there are progressives that need to go.

If people keep fighting the good fight, we will prevail.

There are good things happening in our country right

now. There may be personalities you won't like, but

their message is becoming more consistant and deserve

our support. This is an important time to be conservative

and win big. You don't have to agree on every issue,

but the core issues of freedom and smaller government

are absolute. They can't be compromised anymore. How

about us sticking together on those issues?

I like to think of a person in a gun store wearing an Obama shirt as a someone I hope is showing they might just change :D

Sorry I missed them. I needed someone to hold my targets last weekend.:D

Y'all have all got it right about the republicans as well. Many of them are anti 2nd amendment. That and many other reasons are why I left the party years ago.

Sorry you became a democrat, or if you don't vote it can be like voting for the

opposition.

I look at like this......when the find the gun they love and they join the NRA which they will. They will wake up. Obama is the best thing that ever happened to this country. It woke people up to what might happen I'd we the people don't watch out.

I agree. I didn't think so many people could possibility walk blindly into a socialist state. People will trade security for freedom at the drop of a hat. God forbid them go out and drag something home to protect themselves and their family.

This thread reminds me of the "useful idiots" term that Soviet Russia used to describe people who blindly supported the likes of Lenin and Stalin.

Exactly!

One who believes in their own "right to keep and bear arms" while supporting perhaps the most dangerous enemy towards 2A rights to ever win the highest elected post in the company can only be described as a useful idiot. These people will eventually get the government they deserve. Unfortunately, the rest of us will be forced to suffer with them.

One CAN leave the Republican Party, and not become a Democrat. I have had to firmly ensconce myself as an Conservative Independent, as neither party has what I consider my grand children's best interest at heart. The Republicans have gone Democrat Light, that "Big Tent" and all that. When John McCain, Lamar Alexander, Olympia Snowe and Arlen Specter (before he finally fessed up and quit his Judas ways and joined the party his heart was with), are examples of the best that party has to offer, we need to look elsewhere for public servants. Benedict Brown comes to mind as well.

Just wish we had races where we could vote FOR a conservative candidate, instead of AGAINST a bad liberal one.

+1 The Republican party needs to quit straddling the fence and get back to their conservative roots.

Iknow of a GS nearby that has No Smoking on the door but the lady that sits and does all the paperwork, looked like a freight train. Kinda made me mad but got a great deal on a XD there so I held my breath when I could.

I was born in South Texas and spent my youth fishing the coast, dove hunting around Orange, TX. and deer hunting around Beeville, Texas. Ever since I was able to vote, I have voted for the person's platform AFTER I found out they were pro-gun. I've voted in TN. a few times for a couple Democrats (yes, I admit it) but the Republican choices had a troubling history when it came to gun rights. I've been burned on a few Republican governors also. I've had enough of the current political climate and next election will vote a straight ticket. How's that for change?

Elvis liked Nixon. So did I. Problem was that he got caught doing some stuff in an age that it was not o.k. that today would be no big deal as compared to the crap that presidents do nowadays.

That will only happen when we either have closed primaries or all primaries on the same exact day nationwide. Otherwise, the other side will continue to select our candidate for us as they have done for the last two decades, the weakest of the bunch, the most easy for them to beat.

...and...when they start checking i.d.'s to vote, primary and final election. The enemy keeps bussing in people to vote. Your choice: $5 to go to Tunica all day, or they pay you $50 to ride the bus and vote in 3 states in one day. Take your pick.
