Now that there seem to be signs that the supply of ammo and components is increasing, I've noticed a few private sellers trying to sell large amounts of ammo.

Would you buy from an apparent hoarder or would you tell him to pound sand?

Sure, if there was a price advantage. There really was a shortage, so I can't fault anybody for stocking up. If you're talking about opportunists, the current market prices will take care of them.

Do most people take the Barney Fife approach to feeding your firearms? I keep ammo on hand, and more than one 50 round box. These private sellers may be down to selling their ammo to pay bills. Times are tough. I'd hate to have to sell ammo. I approve of keeping ammo on hand, even in large quantities. If they are selling it at market prices, great. If they are charging over the market price, I won't buy it. Somebody else might look at it different because they NEED it. The value of an object is in the eye of the beholder.

I think those rich conservatives are hoarding money and I want my piece of it. Everybody is entitled to it.

If the prices are good, it doesn't make much of a difference to me. I don't own a gun shop, and don't even sell any guns and ammo, but it would seem to me that this type of thing is what all gun shops do isn't it? Don't they buy big quantities of ammo and then resell it for a higher price?

I know what you're talking about though and have seen several bulk deals where individuals make alot of money because of the amount of ammo they are selling at the time when no one else can find any. Personally, I'm a hoarder myself, and I never sell any so I can always just wait until I find it for the market rate.

I would not buy from someone who had obviously been down to Wally World and bought all the ammo they had, then try to sell it for a profit.

I believe it is ok to stock up on ammo, but the hoarders were much of the problem during the "ammo shortage". I think someone was just bragging about buying all the 380 at WalMart. Don't know if he needed that much, or was just buying all of it to keep anyone else from buying it. That would be hoarding.

Ammunition is like any other commodity. Hoarders were part of the recent problem with availability along with new gun owners buying a stock. I keep a fair amount on hand, have not bought a lot at inflated prices, just enough to keep my stock level. If someone has what I need at market price I'll buy it. I feel there are a lot of folks who will get burned if they need to sell quickly.

Observe pricing and availability on AR type rifles.

I don't consider someone who buys all the ammo at Wal-Mart at 4:30 am before anyone else gets there and tries to sell it at a gun show for 300% markup "Smarter" than me. I consider them opportunists and profiteers.

However, I do consider people who pay $60 for 9mm WWB to be intellectually unsound.

Anyone sitting on a pallet of ammo they bought on spec at an inflated price and still trying to move it at an inflated price gets laughed at.

I'd buy from them, but I won't let them make a profit.

Fortunately I haven't had to worry about it. For years before things went nuts I made a practice of grabbing a box of 9mm or .45 or .22lr on almost every trip to Wal Mart and stash it in the back of the closet.* As a result I haven't had any ammo problems in those calibers. I am starting to run a bit low on .38spl though.

*does that make me one of the evil hoarders???

pound sand unless I couldn't locate something somewhere else. always be careful who ya tell to pound sand cause ya may be eating it later. but I guess it really dpends on the price.

Define Hoarder. Is having over a 100 rds hoarding? Is it hoarding to stock up and then sell the gun, then the ammo because it is no longer needed it? Is it hoarding to to stock up in the tight supply times to be sure ammo was there for practice? Is it hoarding to stock up, then learn to reload so the extra stash is no longer needed?

Is it hoarding to buy a HANDGUN shoot it 200-300 rds and realize it doesn't work for that person and then handgun sell it? Someone else could of bought that handgun new insteaD OF USED.

Really what is hoarding, and why should you care one way or the other? If a so-called hoarder by your definition (anyone who has more than they need whatever that means) sell his stash and it is overpriced don't buy it. How about the gun stores that stock up then charge more for ammo then wal mart or what you can pay online?

Just for the record, one of the times I was at Walmart, there were only 4 boxes of 9mm left and the guy who came up behind me was looking for 9mm too. I originally was going to just buy all they had, but I said "give me two and let him have the other two" since 9mm was so hard to find at the time. I was feeling uncharacteristically benevolent that day.

I would only buy at less than market level. Times are going to get tougher financially. I think we will be seeing lots more of these wise entrepenuers trying to save some of their investment.
