Antique Plates in Shelby County?

I have a 56 chevy that I have been putting standard plates on for years. The car mostly sits in my garage and I drive it to club events or to work 5-6 times a year. Do any of you have antique plates on your cars? The statute says "can not be used for general transportation" which is kind of vague. Does driving the car to work on occasion qualify as "general transportation"?

No one is going to mess with you if it is a two or three times a year thing. All you have to say is that you were planning on taking it to the car wash or something car related. That law is to prevent the other people in Shelby County from putting them on a beater cutlass and never paying for tags again. I have antique tags on my 1960 F100. I drive it once or twice a year.

I have antique tags on two of my motorcycles and ride them to work on occasion without issue. Mostly I just get out and ride them on the weekends for an hour or three.

I have antique tags on my '69 Jeepster Commando, of course it doesn't drive right now, so I'm within the law.

You will be fine on a limted mileage car, better yet on an old car like a '56. A freind still has a '56 his Dad bought new. Has a few mods a just a bit more HP tan when his Dad bought it, however. :)
