valentines gift from wife

i spotted this old sweet lokin gun yesterday and mentioned it to the wife last night. Today she told me to go by and talk to my buddy at the gun shop, so i did. He laid this marlin 24 shot gun on the counter and said happy valentines day. took me a minute but then it registered the wife had got it for me. little scary hearing that from a guy even if you have known him for 15 yrs.

i really have no use for it. wouldn't shoot anything but target loads in it cause it's 100 years old but it's cool factor is huge. everything on it seems to be working as in every thing locks up nice. needs a good cleaning.

back to the cool factor. This devil in my mind wants me to cut it up and make a vintage sawed off out of it. i've looked all over the net and it seems to be worth about $300 or so in the shap it's in. i know it wouldn't be worth $100 if i cut it up but what's the fun in leaving it alone? it'll probably end up hangin on the wall in my home office (toy room) either way.

imagine this sawed off..........

opinions?

I spotted this new Daniel Defence M4 at the Outpost Armory last week, mentioned it to my wife. She has to work in Murfresboro tomorrow, maybe she will pick it up while she's there. She'll be my valentine either way. Congradulations. Oh, I wouldn't chop it either.

I own one. You would be very happy with it. The DD is an exceptionally good rifle.

Good lord man, don't chop up a vintage firearm. That gun has character and history. What would those men who had that gun and walked through fields with their plaid coats and fedoras hunting birds and rabbits think if they knew they cared for that gun for their entire lives to pass along to another generation all to see it chopped up, mamed?

And unless it is somehow in bad shape, shoot the darn thing. 100 years old, pshaw. I shoot all of my old shotguns. These ain't no 100 year old silks here, these are guns man, guns. They were made for shootin.

Yeah, there's no way I could cut that one up. Also if it's mostly going to be a piece to hang on the wall, it will look much better as is for that purpose. If it were an old double barrel I wouldn't have a hard time cutting it up, but I just think one like this should be left as is.

Just my .02
