Blackhawk Serpa question

I just bought a Serpa for my Taurus 24/7. It fits great but inside the holster there are to raised areas that aren't necessary to the function of the holster. After holstering the gun a few times it is already getting holster wear. I realize that some holster wear is unavoidable but since this feature of the holster isn't necessary I would like to fix it.

Does anyone know how I can file down the plastic without making it rough. The gun its self is already acting like sandpaper to the plastic inside at that part and making it chip away. Is their any specific tool I could use to flatten that area out? Thanks for the help.

Just a regular file or sandpaper should work. I wouldn't use a dremel for fear of melting the plastic.

really really fine sandpaper. since the serpa has the trigger guard lock, I have always wondered how effective it would be if you added a thin layer of fleece, moleskin or other smooth fabric to the inside.

Not the same problem, but similar...I had a Serpa made for a Glock 21 that I carried my Glock 30 in. There was an inch or so of the holster that extended past the end of the gun, and since I was after concealability, I used a handsaw to cut the end of the holster off. It worked fine. I used some real fine sandpaper to smooth it off afterwards and you couldn't even tell it hgad been cut.

+1 on the cutting off the end. My Xd sub compact was 1" shorter than my Serpa and sawed it with a bandsaw and scraped down the edges with a knife and sandpaper. I also stuck the fuzzy side of velcro in the bottom where the trigger is, gives it a fairly tight, snug feeling. BTW, I also filed off the hook at the bottom of the paddle for easier on/off. I couldn;t never get it off in a hurry but now lifts right out with a little help.

I wouldn't mind trying the sandpaper but I'm thinking its going to take a loooong time

I see a screw on the side, do the Serpas come apart?

Heck, no laughter here! I use the wife's little emory boards for small, quick gunsmithing projects, all the time.

Works great too.

I liked the Blackhawk I had...Cant find a holster I like that fits my new .45, the FNP-45 USG. Anyone know of one that will? I've heard that there are some made for other guns, some XDs aI think, that are supposed to fit it. Anyone know?

I have a Para LDA CCO with the 3.5 in. barrell. The only Serpa that I could find was for the full size. Used an angle grinder with cutoff wheel to remove the extra material below the muzzle. Alas, the dimensions of the holster didn't account for the shorter frame, so the gun fit with much wiggle. Solution: heated the kydex with a heat gun and formed it around the shorter frame for a tight fit. I've also used a Dremel tool with the sandpaper drum to shape or remove material from the kydex. Use it on slow and it shouldn't melt the material.
