I am considering joining the MSSA (MidSouth Sportshooting Assoc.) in June if they will have me. :screwy: If anyone knows anything about the place can you tell me if it's worth the initial fees and if it has a nice setup. I enjoy shooting (average at best marksman) and I am tired of shooting my ar15 and pistols indoors.

I just joined in January. It cost me 530 dollars then and will cost me another 240 in June. Do I think its worth it? Yes. Would I say that if I owned land or we lived near some other outdoor ranges? Probably not.

Sadly, around here, it's MSSA or nothing. I chose MSSA. Plus, the people there are very like minded and very safety minded. Its a comforting place to shoot and really does have something for everyone.

Go out there and take a tour. Tell them you are thinking about joining and check the place out.

Think you have to have a member sponsor you, or vouch for your abilities/sanity or something. I would not mind joining either. I really get tired of indoor ranges.

My understanding of the membership requirements are that you have to be a NRA member, pass a background check, and pay the fees. I don't recall reading anything on their website that said a sponsor was required.

A sponsor is not necessary but there is a place on the membership application for references. I don't think its a big deal if you don't know anyone. The big thing for them is that you need to be able to pass the background check. If I got in, anyone should be able to. If you have anymore questions, pm me or post here and I will answer as best I can.

I'm planning on joining soon. Not a big choice in ranges around here anyway. The only one that is halfway decent is still an indoor range and caliber restrictive. So if you want to shoot long guns you pretty much have to have land or go MSSA.

I am a member. Lots of events going on all the time so you will never be bored. I wish that we had an indoor pistol range / tactical house but for $20 a month it is a good value.

I agree completely. After getting past the initiation fee, I can easily spend more than 20 bucks a month on range fees. And a nice indoor area would be awesome but I'm sure that it wouldn't be cheap.
