When I was a kid, I really liked Lego's. Build, take apart, interchangeable pieces, multiple configurations.... I still enjoy the concept, but now it's in the form of an AR-15. Yep, 10% coyote hunting tool / 90% toy... 100% fun.

Referring to guns a "toys" doesn't bother me nearly as much as handling any gun as if it were a mere toy.

Seems like there could be alot better things to get all bent out of shape over these days. As my goverment buries my future kids in trillions of dollars of debt I don't mind taking out a few of my toys to put a smile on my face.

I said it bothers me, not that I am annoyed or bent out of shape. Just trying to share a thought, not get flamed or insulted. Pardon me for trying to be involved in the forum.

Involvement in forums comes in many different ways.

It's just the principle of give and take.

We all have our pet peaves, sometimes we give, sometimes we take.

I have learned, be prepared for reaction to any statement.

I really do see what you're saying. It would bother me a great deal if I witnessed someone treating a gun like a toy. By calling it a toy, an immature shooter could get very complacent and forget the four rules. That's why it is important to follow them always.

I think in this forum, most of us just use the term loosly to describe something that we have fun with. Like toys, we probably have more than we really need, but that doesn't stop us from wanting more. They are referred to as toys in name only... at least that's the way I take it.

Or you could say it's a toy that has specific safety requirements.

My Jeep is a primary mode of transportation and my toy....expensive one at that. Same with my guns, my XD is primarily a tool, I carry it for protection, but also serves as a toy, when shooting. I enjoy shooting, it is pleasurable, therefore a toy in that aspect. It's dual purpose. That is why I have 3 clips for it:devil:! My AR, toy, and tool. My Shotgun, toy, hunting when so inclined, tool... Don't sweat the small stuff, and don't pet the sweaty stuff! But if one treats it like a toy and is careless, they are a dumbass and needs a slap to back of head, these toys will kill ya!

When talking and teaching my children, the word "Toy" never comes into the description other than, "This is NOT a TOY". So while it doesn't bother me as an adult, when describing and teaching my kids, I won't use it, I don't want any misunderstandings with them.

A little adult discussion has helped me put it in perspective somewhat. Works much better than smarta$$ comments.

The problem with a forum like this... you can't see the poster's face. It's easy to take things the wrong way.

I agree with that 100%. I take the same approach with my children.

That is true. I'm having a rotten day and looking for an argument I apologize to all for my attitude. Diabetes is a biatch.
