Oakland has joined an alliance of other cities in tightening its gun laws after a unanimous vote by the city council. This gun law is similar to what is already on the books in Richmond, Berkeley and San Francisco. It dictates that those who buy bullets would have to provide thumbprints. "What this does is tightens up the records," said Councilmember Jean Quan. "It requires sales of ammunition to have the same kinds of records that we have in the sale of a gun." "It will require a fingerprint when you buy ammunition," said Quan. "It would also require a new store that would like to sell ammunition to store it in a safe place, and to certify and clear its staff for criminal records."

Councelmember Quan,

It never fails to amaze me how ignorant the typical liberal politician is about guns and ammunition. The ignorance that leads to the idea that there is some difference between a bullet fired from a simple bolt action rifle and one fired from a so called "assault rifle". The ignorance that leads to a fear of guns and not the people who use them illegally. The ignorance that leads to a belief that despite all of the poorly conceived laws that have failed to stem drug trade violence and criminal behavior, just one more anti gun law will make the utopia that never has and never will exist.

Ms. Quan, Your ancestors have never successfully fought off a foreign occupier in order to establish a democracy so I can't expect you to be able to embrace the deeply held American value of firearm ownership. Before you call me a racist, answer this question. How racist is a law that deprives the poorest, least mobile, and most vulnerable segment of our society the right to defend itself? The gangs will buy ammo out of state and the wealthy and educated will import reloading equipment and supplies on the internet. Your transparent attempt to put gun stores out of business with absurd legislation is out of phase with an internet connected world.

Passing this law means that you are pandering to the stupid people who elected you, or you are completely void of any knowledge concerning guns and ammunition. In either case you are a threat to democratic ideals and unfit to lead in any public capacity. Oakland, California is a sewer and you are it's Queen. You deserve each other.

Why does someone in chattanooga the land of the free care about what is happening in communist oakland?

While I initially shared your sentiment, with the over-reaching federal powers we see nowadays, what happens in other states can affect us at some point down the road.

IOW, if we ignore what happens in a majority of other states, we may wake up to see a federal law / ruling that makes life very difficult for us

I do agree with that statement some what. However, do I think TN will ever have a 10 day waiting period for guns? No, do I think they will ever finger print for ammo purchases? No, for the same reason they no longer require the thumb print for a firearm here. Because 98% of the prints used with the ink and cards were illegible.
