Before my wife and I were married (about 14 years ago), I was driving her car. We lived in Maryland, and it was pretty late at night. I was tired, it was late, and I was just completing a long drive from her house. As I was approaching the exit to go to my house, I saw the blue lights in the rear view mirror. I know that I was speeding and immediately pulled over.

He walked up to the car and said that he clocked me going 72 in a 55. I admitted and told him I was in my fiance's car, I was tired, I was almost home, I had to work in the morning, but I should have slowed down, etc. I was having a difficult time finding the registration in her glove box. The officer says, I have to give you a ticket. It's a $100+ fine with 2 points on your lic., OR.... if you close that glove box and tell me you can't find the registration, I will just write you a $20 fine (zero points) for failure to display registration. I said, "Thank you", and I left with less of a ticket than I deserved.

He and I both knew that the registration was in there somewhere, but he just wanted to give me a break.
