Also check out the Taurus Millenium Pro line. Great prices and shoot fantastic. I've got a PT145 and it carries easily and conceals good and has 10 +1 rnds of 45acp :cool:

Not sure where Bartlett is, but Academy has the Taurus PT 101 for $299.99 I have one, it is my first pistol, I got it in November and have put 500 Rounds thrugh it with no problems. Capacity is 16+1 in .40 S&W

Don't be in a hurry. You can rent several at RangeUSA, and probably get some good advice too.

As far as things to stay away from...um have to say Taurus. Have seen first hand the issues they have (out of the box). Have heard their customer service is awful. It's one of those guns where you might get a good one, or you might get a bad one.

I think you might could find a decent Rock Island Govt model 1911 in your price range. But then you'll just become a 1911 addict. But that's not a bad thing. There's 1911's and there's everything else...
