Need a holster...

Hi all. New to the forums here and fairly new to the gun and CCW community. I recently purchased a 1911 and applied for my carry permit yesterday. I have ordered a custom leather holster, gun belt, etc. and the quoted delivery time for them is ~20 weeks right now. This is one of the lesser wait times for leather right now from the recognized names doing leather.

I figured I had plenty of waiting time because the permit will take 90 days to get. Then, I found the thread on here about fastest HCL receipt and saw that many people have gotten theirs in 4-6 weeks lately. In light of that fact, I'm looking for a decent IWB holster to fill in the gap between a possible early HCL receipt, and the leather delivery date.

Can you recommend a decent "tide me over" holster for my 1911 (4 1/4"), sell me one, rent me one, or loan me one? I figure it's plum dumb to have a permit and then wait a few months to actually carry because I'm waiting on my leather to come in. Money is a semi-issue or I'd by/order a holster like a Crossbreed, Galco, etc. I'd like to find something around $30 or under but don't think an Uncle Mike is the best idea (it may be fine, I'm just a bit concerned about weapon retention and the weapon wiggling it's way out over time and falling out).

Thanks for any advice/help you can offer.

Try a Don Hume leather IWB. They're relatively inexpensive (I got mine for around $26-27) and good quality for the money. They will give you an idea if you like that style, etc.

I am currently carrying my 5 inch Springer Loaded in a Don Hume IWB and really like it. I am going to get a Milt Sparks Summer Special soon though that will replace this. For the money, the Don Hume isn't bad.

You could also consider a Don Hume Outside Waistband Holster. It is colder weather now; quite easy to conceal a OWB rig with a long shirt or jacket. Then when you get your nice IWB holster, you at least have holsters for two applications.

Wow kids. It's an overwhelming house majority for Don Hume, lol. I, I, ....I didn't expect that. :)) I may order one online, ...but, before I do, does anyone local to the Nashville area carry Don Hume?

Guns & Leather does, but they are hit and miss on their selection (due to volume of business). I'm sure others do, but I frequent G&L mainly. I bought one of mine there and one at Hero Gear, which is also cool if you're in the neighborhood.

I don't know about Don Hume specifically, but have you looked at Greenes Military on Lebanon Rd? They have a wall full of LOTS of holsters. All kinds, different prices. Wouldn't hurt to go look. They will tell you to bring the gun for fitting, unloaded and safety checked, naturally. Go check them out. You might find a good, cheap alternative.

Thanks guys. A member of another forum sold me a nice holster in fantastic condition at an affordable price. It's modeled after a Sparks Summer Special 2 and should work great!
