Old Iver Johnson

I have been seeing the "We Miss Hearing From You" tag on the sign in page so I thought I better post something. Attached is a picture of a revolver that was given to me over 55 years ago. It was mounted to a Cowboy Lamp that I had in my bedroom as a kid. The lamp is long gone but the gun has been in a drawer for the last 40 plus years. I know nothing about it but it had to be cheap and worn out when I got it. It has Iver Johnson s Arms and Cycle Works on the barrell, PAT June 16, 96 Aug 25, XXX and 911 98 on the trigger guard. It is nickel plated with black (brown) phenolic grips. Anybody know anything about it and what should I do with it. I have been waiting for one of those government buyouts but alass they never come this way.

The top firearm [by WME] is an Iver Johnson Top-Break Safety revolver and the firearm by [by tnmale46] is an Iver Johnson Top-Break Safety Hammerless revolver. Built just after the turn of the 20th century they were also made a few years under the U.S. Revolver Co. [see kwe45919 Curio & Relics - TGO] as a bargin version, not military issue.

For complete information see Iver Johnson Arms & Cycle Works 1871-1993, by Bill Goforth. Mr. Goforth can also be reached on The Firearms Forum and he will gladly answer questions regarding serial numbers, date of manufacture, etc.

I have a top break hammerless I. J. with the three inch barrel, plated, and in 32 short. My dad carried it in the 30s and 40s. I even have a box of Remington 32 short Colt kleanbore ammo for it. I've never fired it and probably will not even though it locks up tight and seems to be in decent shape except for the finish.

Just looked at the ammo box to verify spelling. The price on the box for 50 80gr lead bullets was $2.65.

I got one to. It's in .32. 5-shot with a triger safety.

Got it from my Dad. He said it was an old bank guard pistol.

I fired it a couple of thimes. It is a neat pistol.

A piece of history.

mine is 38

Yup .38 short.

My Dad used it for home protection.

Don't know if it would have stopped anyone, but he felt safe with it.

Hi, TNMALE46:

My Mother carried one like yours in Her apron pocket for years. Brings back some fond memories for me.

Thanks for posting,

Jimmy
