Liberty Centurion Safe sold at Lowes

The Eva-Dry uses Silica Gel. The benefit is that it changes color when it saturates. AFIK, it's the same stuff the safe dealers use in the cloth bags, but there's no indication with them. You can bake the water out of them when they saturate, but you won't know when unless you keep a hygrometer in the safe.

I'm a cigar guy too, so I've been watching humidity for awhile. My humidors need more water in the winter months because the humidity drops in the house. So, my dehumidier in the safe will need more attention in the summer months. Haven't had the eva dry long enough to know if it's even big enough for summer. May need more than one

On the Eva-Dry website it says that the smallest model will take care of 300 cu. ft. and the next one up will go to 500 cu. ft. The safe I'm looking at is 20 cu. ft. so I was thinking the small model would more than suffice. Maybe I should just go with the 500 cu. ft. model instead of having to buy another later. That one should more than take care of a 20 cu. ft. safe.....I would think so anyway.

Really comes down to how often you want to recharge. i bought the small one because the big one is kinda heavy. If you get the big one, you may want do get a wally world extension cord so you don't have to hang it in a wall outlet when you recharge.

I don't mind buying a second one if the first one is too small. Right now, it's sitting in the room, and still not turning pink

I bought this model at Lowes last month for $299. It was difficult for me to unload from my suv and get it into a closet without assistance, but I'm not young. Several rifles, pistols and a few thousand rounds of ammo and it's full.

$199? Is that a typo? Which model did you get? The 12 cu. ft. one?

Yep, I'd think it probably happens more than people would think.....especially with safes that weigh less than 300 lbs. Two strong guys could easily carry it out the door and load it into a pickup. Desperate people can do amazing things.

In this area a few years back, we had a local gas station/convenience store get robbed of it's ATM machine. That was long enough ago when those things were BIG! They backed their pickup into and through the front glass and hefted the machine into the back of the truck and away they went. As far as I ever heard, they were never caught. Funny thing was that the ATM had been completely emptied of cash, so they got nothing from their efforts.

I think a safe weighing almost 500 lbs. or more would be fairly safe from being carried off.....unless the thieves have plenty time and bring a dolly!

I'll tell you what though.....my place is pretty darn secure. I have a great alarm system, there's always someone home and we're all armed....well, except for my little boy! (Just give me a few more years :P) I actually feel really sorry for anyone that would try to break into my home and steal from me.

Thievery is my last reason for buying a safe. My son is getting bigger and I need a secure place to store my guns that he can't get into.....but that I can access quickly if needed. My next biggest concern is fire since I've had my place burn before. I keep plenty insurance and all my guns are easily replaceable. I've already lost all my sentimental ones to a house fire. My pictures and keepsakes are really my most valuable possessions.

From another Forum! The Safe weighs 1150 pounds empty!

I'm certain it happens, just saying that two very successful insurance agents who have a combined 60+ years insuring folks have never heard of a safe being stolen during a robbery or burglary. And this is in Memphis...

To read some posts you'd think that if you have a safe and your house is broken into, it's always stolen. Seems like that's rarely the case.

Besides, any safe not anchored to the floor is a bad idea as a halfway determined robber can get into it or take it. A 200 lb safe bolted to the floor is very unlikely to be stolen under any circumstance.

+1 I had the same conversation with my agent. he also has not heard of a safe stolen or broken into locally. Just the facts.. Crooks typlically are in and out as quickly as possible so messing with a full size safe isn't uasally an option.

I'm sure it does happen on occasion but it's not a high number. We all know crooks are stupid so there's always the chance of them trying.. but actually doing it is another story.

Just because you don't hear of safes being stolen or pried open does not mean it's not happening. I went on five different service calls in middle Tennessee last year where safes were pried open or stolen. There was also a safe owner that had most of his guns stolen because he did not lock his safe ! Just because you have a safe does not mean your valuables will not be stolen or lost in a fire, you are probably thinking, how is that ? Well first and foremost if you buy a cheap safe don't expect it to keep someone with a crowbar out of your safe or if you have a low fire rating don't expect the safe to keep your items from burning up in a fire. We all like getting a good deal and saving money but when you buy a cheap safe just understand what that means. ALL of the safes that are sold at big box stores that cost under $1000 are generally made in China and are of questionable quality and security. The saying about "you get what you pay for" applies in this case. If you want to see a video of a safe being pried open visit my website at www.nashvillesafehouse.com or drop by my show room and I have pictures of other safes that were broken into in the Tennessee area.

Safes are like parachutes, when you need to use it, you don't want a cheap one. :koolaid:

Bad typing - it was $299 and 12 cu ft. Not sure of the model # as it didn't have any manual.

I seem to remember that one being made in china. I personally don't trust important things to be left up to china, and also that is one of the biggest factors hurting our nation now. now if I can find a us made one for a little more I would be interested

All of the safes that you will find in the local area that are in the under $1000 price range are made in china. About the closest thing you will find is a Champion Medalist Series that is made about 20 miles south of the border in Mexico. If you want to spend in the $1300 to 1800 range there is a good selection of quality US made safes. :usa:

I prefer the US made safes, but you have to be willing to pay the extra price for the quality.

PackinMama, I was in the Jeff City Lowes on Sunday and they had knocked $50 off their safe prices. I guess they are trying to get the last ones out of their way.

The safes may well be an "in-and-out" item. I haven't seen them at our local Lowe's before this winter and they don't have a dedicated display area for them.

They've been at my local Lowes for years, iirc. After I bought one there they had a new one in it's place the next week.

Probably just varies from store to store depending on how many they sell.

I'm thinking of getting this Liberty Centurion safe that Lowe's sells. I'm leaning toward this one mainly because I have a Lowes credit card and I can get 6 months no interest and I have a coupon for 10% off. Plus they'll deliver it for $60 extra.

Anyone have one of these? If so, what do you think of it?

I have this safe and love it. It fits perfectly in a closet and holds all 9 pistols, 5 rifles and about 2000 rounds of ammo.

I went to Lowes today and they had one of the big ones and one of the small ones on display....that was it. I was told they couldn't get me a new one in a box either. So, after the sales girl and I couldn't find the key anywhere, I asked her if they'd mark it down for me.....since it was a floor model and the key was missing. So she said she would call the manager and ask.

Even though it was a floor model, it looked brand new....not even a scratch. The funny part is that while she was calling the manager, I was moving the shelves around and checking to make sure everything was in good shape. I lifted up a shelf that was laying on another, and there was the "missing" keys! I put them in my pocket. :D She came back and said they'd let me have it for $600! Sold!!! The safe was priced $727, so I was expecting them to give me maybe $50 or so off.....maybe 10% at most.......so I'm very happy to say the least! :D

Seems like a decent safe for the money. I think I might contact Liberty and see if the combination lock can be replaced with a digital. It takes a while to open it up. I'd much rather punch in some numbers than mess with that dial.

I haven't heard much of anything good about the digital locks. Don't have any personal experience with them.

Awesome! Good deal. My tax return will be here next week and I plan on getting the small one.

When you go to buy yours, if it hasn't been marked down, you can stop off at the post office and get a change of address packet......there's a Lowes coupon in there good for 10% off your purchase. :P I got one, but since they marked the safe down for me, I wasn't able to use it. I saved a lot more by them marking it down than I would have with the coupon, so that was alright with me.

I'm a little upset right now though. My safe is on the truck scheduled to be delivered today. I've spent the morning taking stuff out of my already tight bedroom......took the King size bed apart even. I needed to make room for the delivery guys to roll the safe in there and get it where I wanted it. I got everything ready....stuff spread all throughout my small house.....so I decided to call Lowes and see when they would be here with it because I wanted to take a shower. I was informed that the power tailgate on the truck broke and they can't deliver it until the gate is fixed. :D They have a call in to Ryder to come fix the gate, but they have no idea how long it will take them to get it fixed. So, now I'm going to have to sleep on the couch until my safe comes because there's no way I'm going through taking that monster size bed apart again! I'm not too happy at the moment.

The last thing I want on a safe is an electronic lock.

Sounds like your karma caught up with you regarding the keys.:D:D
