I never totally open carry. I carry in a holster 90% of the time with untucked shirt covering. While it may show sometimes it's not plain as day in the open.

I have seen others open carry and I don't think i've ever noticed anyone paying attention to them. Most people are aware firearms are legal to carry in this state and don't really pay much attention to them.

Like my instructor said when I took the course "if someone robs a bank and you got your gun out in the open who is gonna get shot first" but besides that it does make alot of people uncomfortable altough the don't understand it is even for their saftey!!! I had a guy that was selling me ammo at the local walmart was telling me how unsafe it was and that if he saw someone carrying he would be freaked because "guns are for home defense" and i looked at the lady next to me and asked if he knew I was carrying and he said your not and the lady next to me said "how about me" even though we live in the south and have the 2nd people do still freak sometimes

.........we always beat around the old open carry bush. While legal, harassment will ensue. Someone will call the cops on you OR the cops will show up at your door asking what was going on. Yes TGO'ers...this happened to a friend. He decided to run to the gas station and grab a pack of smokes. While leaving, an elderly woman noticed his pistol and called 911. Apperantly she took down his liscense tag and reported the type of vehicle he was driving. 15 minutes after he was home, Oak Ridge City Police had 3 cop cars and K-9 sitting in front of his house. My buddy and I exited his house with our permits in our hands. The officers already knew he had a permit to carry from the information given by dispatch. After checking my credintals and a quick chat, 5 minutes later everything was sorted out and everyone left.

The police gave one bit of advice......do not open carry. Carry as concealed as possible to avoid situations like these. The officers said they have better things to do then to chase a permit holder down. A heavy percent of the population, especially elders, are and always will be scared of guns. We'll never change thier minds so it's best to try to prevent the harassment of permit holders by doing our little part and keeping our firearms hidden from the public......

I gotta disagree with you here. The problem isn't the seniors, it's the pussified younger generation. The ones that went to zero tolerance schools and have been indoctrinated since kindergarten that guns are bad. The ones that had former hippies for parents that would never have a gun in house. The morons that write to the Tennessean saying they would never go to a restaurant where someone is carrying a gun. They're our problem.

Not the "greatest generation" guys that stormed the beaches and grew up hunting and plinking.

Then they were wasting their own time.

Not that I don't love reading on this subject over and over and over again, but I think this thread is better suited for a different forum. :D Moved to the Handgun Carry and Self Defense forum.

How? From the tag number? How'd the cops know the person the car was registered to was the person seen driving it?

Also, every time we ran a tag number, back when I was working, all we got back was the name and address of the person it was registered to, and any info concerning the vehicle's status. ( Stolen, etc. )

Wasn't until we ran the person's license number that we got any info concerning their status, or whether or not they had a carry permit.

Then again, that may just be how our dispatch operated... :D

Oh, and concerning open carry... I've come to the conclusion that if I'm ever inclined to do it, I'm certainly not gonna talk about it on the 'net. :P

I can't tell if this is a quote from the police or your embellishment............Either source, it is total :DBS.:P Anyone whom I would consider elderly remembers that guns won WW11. Many households had a gun behind a door. Most of them remember histories of gun control by other nations and the results the people received from gun controls. No, it 'ain't' the elderly, it is the young left wing stupid or in very few cases the old and stupid.

Edit: I do not normally open carry. I would never carry into a convenience store, just asking for what the OP mentioned or some variation problem. In the rare event that I do OC I try to appear presentable and not like a bum......
