Airport Shooting Range - Drives Me Nuts!

Recommended Posts

Posted

We've lived in our house in Donelson for about 6 months now and it's not uncommon to hear gunshots all day long. We've thought this was pretty odd, since we are in the city limits.

Turns out there is a police shooting range at the airport and it's basically right in our backyard. I've heard about 200 rounds this morning so far.

It sucks pretty bad that I have to drive nearly an hour to Owl Hollow to shoot yet I get to listen to gunshots every day I spend at home. Makes me jealous!!!

I hope you got a good deal on the house considering everyone knew about its location.

It's not loud enough to be disruptive, just makes you want to join the fun!

You should cautiously cultivate some relationships with these guys. If they like you, they may open up to the public to feed their cashbox.

I hear Knox County's finest practicing all the time. The jail and training facility are close by. They only do outdoor fire during the week, and they have a great indoor range too. Only time the public gets to use it is if you take a HCP course through them.

I like it when I hear gun fire, sometimes I go out and let them hear mine.

I live next to Shelby Farms where the Shelby County Sheriff's Office has their training facility and range. I can often hear gunfire in the evenings, I get a little jealous sometimes too.

Is it on airport property or are you talking about the training center on Donelson Pike. I have to agree...to be THAT close to a range and not be able to shoot there, breaks my heart. I grew up in east nashville...lousy part of town. Wasn't unusual to hear gunshots. We moved Donelson. First night I was there I stepped outside to enjoy a nice neibhorhood, and heard at least a dozen full autos going off. Thought I was over on Dickerson Road again for a minute.

I was told by metro police this morning that it was the airport police doing training. We thought it was our distant neighbors this whole time.

I'm not exactly sure where the range is located or how I could even get access to buddy up to anyone. No full autos this morning but they were sure emptying mags pretty quick.

Behind my backyard fence is the airport property, although I'm a good few miles away from the actual airport. We see people on horseback sometimes behind our fence as well as on 4 wheelers. Our neighbors all say they belong to the airport staff of some sort. When a tree damaged our fence, I had to call the airport (they own the fence) and they came and fixed it for us. It took many phone calls as most of the staff didn't know they even own the property.

Oddly enough...many police and military ranges seem to be right next to airport property. Our police range in Norfolk, VA is right at the end of one of the runways. And I've shot at the Guard range in Nashville (Donelson Pike/Murfreesboro Road) which is next to BNA airport and on the same grounds as the Guard air hangers.

I was not aware there was a range on the Guard base...now I'm doubly sad. That's TWO ranges within dang near walking distance of my house I can't shoot on

I hear gunfire fairly often here in the Haywood Ln/I-24 area but it's usually the Apts on Apache Trail and Packard Dr. I dug a .38 out of my roof a couple of years ago after someone shot one in the air on July 4th.

When I lived in GA, I could hear the guns @ Ft. Stewart.... 30 miles away.

I work with them, and have for 15 years, and have only been invited once. They seem to never have availability for me when I have followed up, so don't count on it.

It isn't that they arent cool guys, some are some arent. But not all the weapons they fire belong to the BNA-PD, so then there is the liability thing.

It does suck though, I know that for a fact.
