Springfield xd40 question

The one part of the XD gear that is worth its weight in gold is the mag loader for the first several hundred rounds. the rest of it never gets touched.

I agree with that... the gun and mag loader are great. You can store the rest. The XD 40 is pretty much the same as your XD 9 just different ammo.

Good price would be around $400-425 for used. Hey used is still used no matter what... just like a car.

I love my XD40SC. The only complaint I have is with the lever in the center of the trigger. When I'm shooting it always seems to irritate my trigger finger. Normally I carry a Sig 229. In any event, the XD 40 is a nice piece. I would work on the price a little.

....also, the mags fit tight in my XD40 (and also in the XDm 40 i used to have)

when fully loaded...very tough to drop a loaded mag, should the need arise. also, ...

Mine is in the repair shop because of that fact. Seems the newer models had that problem (with the mag release). It is a known issue with Springfield and they are fixing it under warranty free of charge and while there it is getting tricked out at the custom shop.

I don't believe there was anything wrong with your .40, Alpha. The .40s are known to be a tight fit, but I've never read anything on XDtalk about it being a "known issue".

Both subcompact models are tight, including the 13 round 9mm mag. All of these release easily, though, if you push in (upward) on the loaded mag while releasing. It's generally not an issue if you use them for IDPA or whatever though, as they release easily empty, of half empty.

The sigma never had that problem and it was junk compared to springfield. When I talked to springfield about they told me it was a "known" issue with some off them. I am also a member of gun directory.com and several people on there have claimed theirs did the same thing as mine. I could carry a full mag and one in the pipe in the sigma and could eject the mag all day long like it was nothing even loaded to capacity. One thing i did notice and I do not know if this had an affect on it or not but that mag springs were hard as heck to push down. I initially had trouble loading it without the speed loader I had to really fight it and in the sigma I never had to fight it so I dont know if they tighter springs in the springfield have anything to do with it or not.

Well, springs are quite firm in these, and initially tough to fill to capacity with just fingers. I generally use mag loader on my XD9 SC and Service mags even now, particularly on the subbie, as the last couple rounds are still tough to get in with fingers only. I still can't release full 13 round flush mag with thumb, just barely can with trigger finger on other side, but have to regrip gun to do that. CAN release with thumb in normal shooting position once 3 or 4 rounds are spent, all the way to empty.

XDtalk has constant newbies asking if difficulty to release full mag is normal - answer is always, yes, push up on mag and release. .40 is harder than 9mm, and the subbie mags are harder than the full size, with the .40 subbie mags apparently the toughest of all.

And after all, how important is it to be able to easily drop a full mag anyway? I can't think of any SD or "tactical" situation where that would be a plus.

Anyway, all I'm saying is, don't be shocked if it's the same in this regard when you get it back.

Yup.

The three Xds I've had all did this.

Not something I would send in for service, myself really...but different strokes...

I've had the XD40 4" for three or years now after trading my XD40 Tactical 5" in. I'm going to have the trigger worked on to shorten the reset and travel length. I shot several hundred rounds out of a Glock 17, ran 500 rounds through an FBI Agent's mdl. 22 during a transition course and shoot our department's Glock 22s from time to time. None of Glocks seem to break the shot as consistently as my XD40. I do like the shorter reset of the Glock but hate the grip angle.

I am down with a sprained ankle so havent been carrying or anything the last four weeks. Therefore, I wanted a combat trigger job done, etc. on it so I figured heck while I send it off I will have springfield fix the issue with the magazine as well. By the time I get the gun back (mid february) I should be able to start shooting again.

I wouldnt have springer precision or canyon creek do it because they actually change the springs out for lighter springs and it can cause light primer strikes. If you are going to do this send it to springfield as the only thing they replace is the sear assembly with reduced overtravel from what I was told. Here is a link to the springer kits if you do not believe me.

Well, unless there really IS some glitch in your mag release assembly on your particular gun, I can't think of anything they could do to make it release a full mag easier, unless they do some custom type beveling on the catch or something.

Again, if this were a widely "known issue" I think it would be a common topic on XDtalk, which it isn't.

The "known issue" is that XD mags are tight and difficult to release when full. Release easily empty or after a few rounds expended or by pressing full mag upwards while pressing release button. It may also loosen up some over time. Some folks mention a mod or two, but I'd be extremely careful with any of those, as the worst thing on a mag is for it to come loose when you DON'T want it to.

typical threads:

Mag Release button awfully tough to push - XDTalk Forums - Your XD/XD(m) Information Source!

Any way to adjust the mag release? - XDTalk Forums - Your XD/XD(m) Information Source!

Of course, it's possible that your particular gun does indeed have an atypical prob, anything's possible.

Right, I wanted to be sure that if it was an atypical problem that it was nipped in the butt before it caused something major to happen. Heck it cost nothing to send it in and have them look at it. I cant use it right now anyways.
