Scope/sighting problem

My wife got me a Rossi M92 in 357 for our anniversary this year and I have a small problem. I have bought 2 scopes for it and so far nothing I have purchased has a long enough "eye relief". I think that's what it's called. In order to see through the scope it has to sit right on top of the chamber and if a shot is fired it will jamb due to the shell hitting the scope and falling back into the chamber.

I know I am going to have to buy some tall scope mounts to get it off the gun, but I need to find a scope with a very long eye relief in order to put the scope in front of the chamber.

Any suggestions?

I started to put the open sights on the gun but would really rather have a scope if possible.

You don’t need to get the scope high; you need to get it forward. You can search for scopes mounts for that particular model, but it usually comes down to having a scope mounting rail installed.

Hold the rifle naturally and have someone measure from your eye to the point on the rifle where the scope needs to be to not be hit by the ejecting shell. That is the eye relief you need and will determine if you can use a rifle scope or will need a handgun scope.

You could also have a side scope mount added.
