Denied Handgun Purchase

I have a friend that was recently denied purchasing a handgun here in Tennessee. He appealed and received a form that said he was disqualified for firearms by the FBI in their database.

He says he doesn't know why he has been denied by the FBI and has purchased a rifle in the past two years. He is really concerned about this situation.

Do any of you guys know what might be going on or what some of the reasons someone can be denied firearm purchase by the FBI?

did he use his ss# on the form. alot of people don't like to but it makes the report come back as accurate as it can. many people just like to use their names and someone else may have the same name and once it pulls that up i heard they won't cross ref. the address or lic# to see if there are more than one person with that name. I guess another reason could be stolen identity (don't know about that one). seems i read somewhere on here about a person being a witness on a police report and it showed up and got his name kicked back. i was under the impression that if you sent in the appeals form they had to tell you why.

Your friend needs to start making some calls. First the state, then if necessary, the FBI.

Hope your friend gets it straightened out. I would have thought "ID theft" right away! Hope he's checked his credit card statements closely.

Jeremy is correct... Always use you ssn on the paperwork when you purchase a gun. I use NCIC at work and even the most uncommon name will have mutiple hits and be totally different people. I know there ia an appeal process here in TN but dont know the info on it.
