I recommend re-lubing your goat whenever your dipstick shows it's dry

Fixed it for people like you.

Heres a thought, when you went back to put up Posted signs the stand was gone. The stand was proably removed because deer season is over until next fall.Go back to that area this fall and see if anyone is hunting back in that area with the signs up now.Congrats on the purchase of the land, thats got to be nice.

In Tennessee one must obtain written permission to hunt on private land. Even friends of the land owner.

It helps to post the land.

Untill you own the land, it is none of your business.

Once you own the land, do as you please. Just do it the right way.

You already resolved it but we found a stand on my family posted land and did what others have suggested. We took it down and put it in the barn. Left a letter on the tree instructing the owner of the stand to contact the owner of the property to regain possession of their stand. Turned out the hunter did not know the boundary of the land and had wandered a little inside the property line. In his defense it was near the edge of the property an about the only unfenced section of the property since it was along a stream and small gully. He apologized and understood the no hunting rules as there are about 60 head of cattle on the property. He was happy to get his stand back and was happy that the land owner who also happens to be the judge in the area was not upset at all.

I did not know where to post this, so I thought this section would have some feedback.

I’m closing on some property on Monday. The agent suggested I walk the property before Monday and look it over before closing. I did and noticed a deer stand and some pretty fresh brass near the stand. I called the agent to have them find out if the selling party is leasing or letting someone shoot on the land. If not, I guess I would consider it trespassing on private property.

Just curious if anyone has ever found a stand on their property before and how you handled the situation? First thing after closing, a buddy and I are going to post a bunch of “Posted No Trespassing” signs. Other than that, not sure what else to do.

Of course, the previous owners actually built some towers to hunt out of that was on the 70 acre cattle farm my dad and I bought. We have left em alone cuz they are rickety now as they were built years ago.

My grandfather came up with an effective solution to keep hunters from trespassing on his property (he has been the owner of the land for 50+ years). He hauls the remnants of a deer that he's killed to the trespassers blind/hideout and dumps it. This has worked really well for us so far.

You only have to have written permission, if the land is posted properly with NO HUNTING WITHOUT WRITTEN PERMISSION signs and is properly posted the correct amount of feet or yards around the property.

Update on this:

What is the matter with people? My buddy and I put up a dozen or more "Posted" signs, no hunting/trespassing. My kids and I went out there today and the sign that was on the tree where the stand was, was taken down and tore in half.

Not only did they ignore all the signs up to that point, they have a clear disregard for private property. I was pissed!

Makes me feel like I'm trespassing on my own proprerty. I may have an idea of who/where they are coming from.

People are stupid, that's what. A few years back, my Dad found a super nice tree stand a couple hundred yards from where he and his wife were building their new home. This was smack dab in the middle of property that had been in his wife's family for generations, and no permission had ever been given. They took the stand down and sold it on eBay.

Just last year, my grandfather on my mother's side found a baited(!) stand on his property. The following morning at daybreak, a handful of TWRA agents were waiting when the perp showed up to "hunt". Wish I'd been there to see that... :stalk:

Good luck with your current situation. Here's hoping you catch the losers.

This stand was baited as well.
Well, there ya' go, then. I'd make the call to TWRA. They don't take too kindly to that sorta thing. Be on the lookout again next season, as well.

The biggern concern is what kind of A-hole I'm dealing with that would have such disregard for laws and come onto "MY" property and do that. I walk around there with my kids. I had my .45 strapped to me today and sure as hell won't go out there again without one.

That's one of the #1 reasons to get the TWRA officers involved.

Are there any buildings or items on the property that could be harmed? Might hide a couple of trail cameras to watch over them if so.

I won't go out of my house without one. Not in the cesspool in which I live.

No buildings, just fields and timber.

I'm very protective of my "fields and timber." There are no "Squatter's rights" on my property, and that sounds like he's/they're trying to establish ownership.

You come to my turf and you get:

Time to put a few trail cameras up on the easiest paths into that spot. At this time of year your going to want to find some brush pile or other way to hide the camera until the foilage comes in. Get pictures of the dill hole and then give them to Trousdale Metro. They probably already know them!

If you want, I volunteer to patrol once in a while. Can hit it on the way home from work. See if anyone is in any parking areas, driveways etc near the property. There will be a run in at some point.

Had it happen to us on our lease this year! He was outnumbered though as there were 5 of us and only him and his "women". He got very apologetic as the second and third truck rolled up on him. He apparently was very mouthy with the first guy in when he felt the odds were equal saying he didn't need to "tell you f$ing anything" when asked why he was there (at 4:30 AM on a Sunday morning). When my brother and I got up to the site he got all "sorry". My brother had already had the sheriff's department talk to him as he had dumped some trash on the property and of all things, left some prescription bottles in the bags. Wasn't a hard case to solve. My brother let him know this was no longer available for parking, dumping, looking around or any other activity. He was then informed any further venture onto the property would lead to either a trespassing charge, if lucky, or a arse whooping, if warranted. We shall see if he wishes to push the issue.

Sorry you have to deal with the sorrier side of humanity here Tempest. Be armed and get a small digital recorder to carry with you while your there till this resolves. I have one if you need it.

I think you need written premission unless you are either hunting on public land or TWRA land, I think this means all private property?

Be careful. People like that should be considered dangerous. I would treat them the same way as if I found them wandering around inside my house. Be careful.

So if he felt COMPELLED to approach them, what would be the way to protect. I'm thinking hands in my jacket (Cause it's cold) with my hands on a revolver with a protected hammer that'll fire without getting caught on a pocket liner. With back-up friend/relative. What say you guys?

With a deputy or TWRA officer beside him. The trespasser has already demonstrated that he knows that he's trespassing, and doesn't care. I'd venture a guess that he was actually daring Tempest to do something about it by tearing down the sign. No sense into getting into a confrontation with the guy if you can avoid it. The trespasser strikes me as the type of guy that would do damage to the property or anything left on it, just to be spiteful.

1st get LE out there if you can.

2nd if you get surprised out there.

Guy has flaunted warning, trespassed after written warning, validated he was notified by tearing up said warning, and continued criminal trespassing. I would assume he is armed with criminal intent (trespassing, poaching). If I saw them i would be drawn low ready until i could verify they were unarmed and off the property. I would escort them from a safe distance behind them to the waiting police. That's just me.
