I just moved to tennessee and i was wondering if i am allowed to place a factory made 8.5 inch Ruger 10/22 Barrel on my Ruger 10/22. I came from Canada last year and they allowed it but i am not sure what the regulations are here. I want to check before i do it.

short answer NO. you can not have a barrel shorter than 16 inches on a rifle in the U.S. with out special registrations.

It wasn't asked, but just in case you ever wonder, minimum barrel lenght on a shotgun is 18". But like SBR's (Short Barrel Rifles), with a little paperwork and extra cash you can legally own a shotgun with a barrel shorter than 18".

trust me dont move to canada. we may be liberal with the barrel length but in order to own a fire arm the gov wants to know who has it and where it is. if you have a loaded firearm in your house and get caught with it then you get a ticket to jail for a few years. handguns with barrels shorter than 4 inches or fully automatic firearms are prohibited, and if you do own a handgun you have to get a peace of paper from the gov just to move it from one location to another. CANADA SUCKS when it comes to firearms, and i am Canadian I should know.
