Moving down to Knoxville area next Summer. Question: How do I go about getting a TN CCW? And am I allowed to transport my handguns into TN when I move if I have not gotten my CCW as of that time? I assume my rifles are not an issue? Thanks.

No problems that I know of. Just don't transport them loaded and/or easily accessible to the driver.

As far as your guns go, leave them in New York. It's perfectly legal to bring them with you (there is no license for long gun or handgun ownership), but why bother. You can buy much better stuff here in Tennessee (you know you want an AR-15 or an NFA weapon)!!!!

Handgun Carry Permits (not CCW, you can open carry with one)are relatively easy to get because we're a must issue state (the burden of proof that you are not qualified lies on the government, not vice versa). You just have to take the class, submit your application and fee, get your finger prints and wait (usually less than 90 days but sometimes a little more).

That would be correct. My boss' son-in-law lives up there and just had to go through the whole process in order to buy a handgun. Took him over a year or so, and all he really wanted was the ability to keep one in his home. Down here things are much more relaxed, there's no way I could ever live in NY.

Welcome. As has been said, no licenses required to purchase or own pistols here in TN. No waiting periods or mag capacity limits either. TN Handgun Carry Permits are easy to come by. Just take the required class (prices vary), apply at a driver's license station ($115), get your prints taken, and wait a few weeks and you'll receive it in the mail. If you're eligible to buy a gun, chances are you're eligible to get a TN HCP. TN is a "shall issue" state, which means unless there is a specific reason you cannot have a HCP, then you will be approved. Good luck and hope you enjoy your stay.

Get out of there fast!! Was just looking at the NRA-ILA site on the upcoming anti-gun bills for NY. Glad I left. Re-discover your freedoms! (and also cheap gas, cheap electric, etc...)

No premit to buy, you can carry them in your vehicle with ammo and firearms seperated/unloaded.

You may also carry on your property without a permit.

A permit now requires a class by a state qualified instructor, DMV visit for paperwork and picture, fingerprinting and wait on issue of Handgun Carry Permit (HCP).

Class will cost different depending on where and who gives it, $115 for DMV visit and fingerprints, fingerprints are done at a non-government location, and up to 90 days for issue.

Same picture for drivers license and HCP also same number.

Yeah, read that too. You know if you removed NYC from the rest of the state NY would be a "red state" and not too different than TN. But that is just wishful thinking I guess.

Thanks for the vehicle information. I'll make the big move, & apply for my CCW when I get my drivers license. I see I won't have any problems moving to TN. Moving back to NY if it ever comes to that won't be so easy. I get the impression that reacquiring my NY Pistol license will be hell on earth.
