44 special

Is the Charter Arms 44 special really a good defensive gun? Does it overpenetrate? And would you trade a keltec p11 to get one? I have never shot a 44 special in a small gun so I have no experience to base this decision on. This is the latest offering from Charter Arms.

I would swap in a heartbeat! I have one of both...the Charter Arms .44 special "Bulldog" and the Kel-Tec P-11.

They both have their attributes, but the .44 special wins hands down, in knock down power! Light and handy, recoil is equal to a .38 spcl.+p round.

The federal air marshals used the .44 special cartridge back in the 70's and 80's in the Skymarshals program, because the .44 spcl. wasn't prone to over penetration on the thinned skinned airplane fuselage. FWIW... just my .02

The latest Charter Arms Bulldog 44 is a great concept when it goes BANG, that does not happen every time you pull the trigger. My first one whent back to charter 3 times, they relaced it weith a new one, It was more reliable but I would not stake my life on it.
