I perhaps enjoy the hunt more than the capture for additions to my collection. So when I find one that skims across my limited knowledge of firearms like a stone, I have to go home and think...

This is what I did last week when I visited a local store for the first time. Ya, I went home with 2 guns at great prices that I really "needed", but I left the real gem there until this afternoon.

I had to double check with a couple of serious collectors to make certain what I was seeing was what I was seeing...

The Mauser 1910/34 (a collectors designation, mauser didn't # or name it), was manufactured without serious interruption from 1910 to 1941 when it was surpassed by the 1934 designed Hsc. There were a number of variations and 2 calibres, 7.65mm and 6.35mm. Several in 9mm, thought to be proto-types are known to exist.

They are well engineered and well made. They are ugly. In their final form, some 100,000 were mfg. in 7.65mm from 1934 to 41 and are quite common (military issue, especially Navy are quite desirable however). Less than 26,000 were made in 6.35mm, with the highest reported # in the 429,000 range. Though a large % went to the military and foreign contracts, many were private purchase either by military personnel or private citizens.

Here is SER# 424,77x. Crown U proof puts production prior to early 1940,

the "Deutsches Reich Patenten und Anderes Patenten" was instituted in 1930. Gun is 95+% original blue, bore, grips and mag are excellent.

I have turned down two offers this week to purchase this pistol sight-unseen for nearly double what the store was selling it for...

Awesome find and collector's piece. Beautiful condition. :P

I'd definitely hang onto that... especially in that condition. If you don't mind disclosing it, how much did you end up paying for it? Make out very well on it?

It was on consignment and mistakenly listed as a 1910. It had been there over a year at $310.00, according to the store. There is also an Astra 300 there which is also on consignment. I tried to lay my hands on my Astra book to determine if it fell within the Nazi contract, but haven't located the book yet. Even it if did, it's not that great a bargain @ $375.00 (fair, yes, but not enough to build equity on in the forseeable future and original German holsters are almost impossible to find for it when they don't come as complete rigs). Most of those Astras were shipped directly to France and don't have WaA marks. However, the Astra factory kept great records and they are easy to document.
