Recycle Bin Question

Quick question. I was cleaning out some stuff on my hard drive, pictures mainly from work and sent them to the recycle bin. Went to clean out the recycle bin, haven't done it in almost a year:D:p!

Anyway, I select all, I have a total of 3,669 files, anywhere from 4KB up to 334,416 KB, with the majority being in the 200 to 2,000 kb range.

I'm curious to find out how much space this is taking, but the details only show a number. How can I find this out?

One way, look at the amount of free disk space on your hard drive, then delete the files from the recycle bin, and look at the amount of free disk space on your hard drive again.

Personally, I have my "recycle bin" set to automatically delete files as they are delete. I don't like having to delete files twice.

And, just why type of "pictures from work" were these?

If you run the Disk Cleanup program in startup>all programs>accessories>system tools, it should show you a total of the space which could be recovered by cleaning it out.

Go to:

Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Free Up Space on Your Hard Disk

Disk Cleanup will analyze your hard drive and generate a list of things that can be deleted. The recycle bin will be listed, and will give you the total size of all the files in it.

Did the disk clean up, first one I could find.

2,995,175 KB or 2.9GB!!!

I wonder if my computer will speed up!

If I delete or compress old files, from Temp Int Files, Recycle Bin, Temp Files, offline files, it is saying a total amount of disk space gain is 14,061,460 (the last number is cut off)KB or 13.4 gig.....holy crap.

If you run Defrag, it very well might...

Hope so, my laptop fan has been running hard lately, not sure if this is related or not. need to get some canned air.

Use this - CCleaner - Home

From now on its a freebie and will find more junk at the same time and tell you how much and clean it for you.

Will run that today as well.
