Flying and Airline Ticket Tips

Recommended Posts

My friend is getting married on April 3rd in Orlando, Fl. My girlfriend and I will be riding down there with my parents on April 1st. My parents are going to stay the whole week but my girlfriend and I need to come back earlier probably like tuesday afternoon cause we both have school and work to get back to.

So my question is do you guys have any tips or suggestions about flying, and getting tickets, I have never flown before. I need to get from orlando to mcghee tyson. We will have luggage I want to take my laptop on board if that is possible but if not then maybe just the portable dvd player. I can think of the obvious no knives etc but any links would be very helpful.

Just check the airports website they will explane everything.

Personal tip, check your jacket pockets and if you use the same bags for hunting as you will use for air travel check them good for stray bullets.

Flying into McGhee Tyson can be expensive. If you have a friend that can pick you up in Nashville or Atlanta, that woud be the way to go. I fly fairly often, and for my travel needs, Southwest is the best deal for me. They should have a direct flight from Orlando to Nashville for less than $100. If you watch them, they usually run sales from time to time, and you might be able to get one for close to $50. If you do purchase a ticket and the price does go down after that, they will refund the difference, so just be mindful of that.

As far as security, wear shoes that are easily removable, tell your girlfriend not to wear a bunch of metal jewlry, leave the rodeo championship buckle at home, no liquids over three ounces, no blades, and no pointy things. Computers are fine, just be prepared to take it out of the case to go through the x-ray machine. Generally, I try to empty my pockets in my carry-on bag before going through security. That way, I just run my bag through the machine, and I do not have to worry about putting all the junk in my pockets while people are waiting behind me.

It is really not a big deal. If you do not know what you are supposed to do, just ask the guy with the turban on his head. :hyper:

flying to orlando is cheap, you can go allegiant. That is usually less than a hundred bucks from knoxville but the longer you wait the more expensive it gets.

And hey, hit Disney while you are there. Those parks are fantastic.

Since you got time, I'd keep my eye on Southwest. As far as packing, see if you can pack clothes and such on one carry on each and buy the sample size toiletries when you land, that way just print out the ticket before flying out and go straight to security/gate. No checking in will save you some time and headache.

If you do go Southwest and fly out of Nashville or Atlanta you can print your boarding pass 24 hours before the scheduled departure time. The sooner you print that, the sooner they will board you on the plane (better choice of seats). Often times the flights to Orlando are very crowded. If you wait you may not be able to sit together. I always print them the minute that it will allow me to do so.

Just fly allegiant and save yourself the hassle. I am in Fl now just flew down on the 14th, going home the 24th. Total cost round trip was $129.00, I didnot check bags, had one carry on as well as my laptop.

I flew into Sanford airport, beginning 2/1 they will be flying int Orlando Intenational at the same price. Airtran also flies Knoxville to Orlando for just a few bucks more.
