Any reputable mechanics in the Clinton/OR area?

My 2005 Silverado I just purchased, seems to have a ticking/knocking noise, even when warmed up. The idle is also a bit fluttery. I have had it at Fox Chevrolet twice. They updated my PCM, and this last time put some Lucas Oil treatment in it. Still exists. Perhaps someone else, an honest and capable mechanic can listen to the noise and know what it is, if it something to worry about etc. Thank you for your help.

Take it to Lenoir City and have Waldrop's work on it, I just got my car back and it runs like a dream. It seems to me that its really good work.

how many miles??? do you know if it might be a valve tick?? or a lower end knock??

67,000 miles. I think it is a top end noise, but hard to really pin point. I do not think it is the piston slap..that would be a lot louder i would think.

if it is like a light tick, it would be lifters, but also the fuel injectors make tick, tick tick sound each time they open,l but hte injector noise would only be able to be heard if you had your ear under the hood

Actually, according to just about any of the Chevy forums you could look at, it's a fairly common problem.

I bought my '03 GMC brand new, and it's had the "cold start tic" since break-in.

After 117000 miles, it has yet to cause a problem.

I was going to mention them too. They've always been fair with me. There's been a time or two that they couldn't fix something (transmission), but they're honest about it and didn't charge me for anything after looking at it, then they recommended a shop to fix it.

I'll 3rd RT Clapp. I use the one in Oak Ridge for my car and we use the one in east Knoxville at work for the major stuff our mechanic can do.

I guess this makes me #4 for RT Clapp. I started using them several years ago at the recommendation of several co-workers. I've never had a complaint.

It's normal on a Chevy. If you want, try some higher octane fuel. I usually run some seafoam through the pcv valve and then change the oil. That seems to quiet it down some.

The pinging won't hurt your truck, just like the other poster said. It's a common problem.
