gunsmith in clarksville area?

i am looking for a gunsmith in the clarksville area, may go to nashville if necessary as well. i just got a Smith and Wesson model 19-4 that was bought new in 1980 by my FIL. he left it sitting for the last 5 years and there is some rust pitting on the muzzle, underlug, and a couple spots on the cylinder. im looking to get it refinished and the internals replaced.

any ideas on who may be up to it locally?

My brother-in-law uses Allens firearms on dover rd (highway 79). Thier gun prices are on the high side but my B-I-L says they have good gunsmith prices

i called the smith out in guns and leather. he referred me to a guy over in memphis which he used to send out to for blueing. he explained to me that there is not really a good way to repair what i need done with rust pitting and said i should just shoot it as is. im gonna get a second opinion but thats the initail report.

For what it's worth, refinishing old/ classic/ collectible guns generally decreases their value. I'd probably leave it alone if it were mine.

First, get Jerry Miculek's DVD, "Trigger Job." That will teach you how to dismantle and tune the S&W. After that just get some cold blue. Degrease with something like gun scrubber and have some 0000 steel wool on hand.

I've done action jobs on several dozen revolvers, mostly S&Ws. They are easy if you get the DVD, one good stone and remember less is more. Also, you may consider getting a K-frame spring pac at TN Gun Country. The liklihood you need to replace anything but springs is slim.

P.S. I've had several S&W 19s. The only way they can be collectible is if they are in mint condition with box and papers or are some special production run. This one sounds like a typical shooter, so just clean it up and shoot it. However, if you want to mitigate the cosmetics of pitting just get it blasted and then reblued. The place out in Chapmansboro used to hot blue every few weeks, don't know if they still do it. They did a S&W revolver for me one time a few years ago.

Looked it up, they still blue firearms.
