Taurus PT709 "Slim" Club

Americam Rifleman had an article on concealed carry .380s in Feb. Hope the PT709 will be a good carry gun, because the .380 pistols weren't impressive.

If you have to go .380 (or want to), FWIW would suggest a SIG P230; light and small enough to go in a pocket, but a big enough grip to get a hand on, and absolute reliability.

The verdict is in. We have a winner. 200 rounds and absolutly perfect. seems to shoot a little to the lower left but it may be me too. I'm just shooting the steel targets in the back yard.

As I expected the recoil is much easier on you vs the keltec P11 or PF9. I could actually see myself using this at the range. Anyway results are as expected, just as the larger mil-pro and 24/7 models. The PT709 is a keeper in my book.

porn on the way,, dirty too.. not going to clean it...

Thanks for the update lowbud. It surprises me that the latest releases from the gun companies didn't included more small single stack 9's. Instead, they are trying to play catchup to the LCP. Ruger should have taken it up a notch and released an LCP 9mm or something to stay on the edge. This is a case where Taurus has taken the lead in my opinion, well after Keltec I guess.

While I absolutely LOVE my Kel-tec 380 & 32 for EDC in the summer, cooler weather is coming. So, I started carrying my PT111 (which s a great shooter), but just a little bulky to carry. I am one who wants to carry & forget that I even have it on, without major wardrobe changes. Once I got a close look at the 709 & began researching reviews, I decided to give it a shot. My summary:

- Carries incredibly well; VERY comfortable IWB or OWB!!! Anyone who carries all day knows that this cannot be understated. Rating = A

- Shoots GREAT! You'll need to adjust the sights to get it zero'd. Trigger pull is GREAT! This was a HUGE plus for me. Rating = A

- Reliability - I've only had a chance to put a box of 50 thru it. Flawless thus far. Rating thus far = A

- Accuracy - I had no problems shooting 3-4" groups at 25 yrds with rapid follow up shots. This trigger makes a big difference. Rating = A

Summary - Thus far, I LOVE THIS GUN!

While I don't own a PT709, I have fondled several at the gun shows. Like the

size, feel, & "slimness" of this little gun.

I plan on buying one as soon as I can scrape up the $$$.

Wife likes the feel of the 709 as well. Make a great carry gun for her or myself.

I hope I can pocket carry mine. I have one that should be at the FFL on Monday. That is why I bought it. Anyone know of a decent pocket holster for it?

I have a new PT709 slim, Out of the box it shot about a foot low and left at 7 yards. I sent it back to Taurus and got it back yesterday after 9 days. They said it was repaired, replaced front sight and adjusted, it still shoots six inches low and left. What to do? I hate to lose more money on it by trading it.

Are the sights adjustable? Mine came with adjustable sights. I went to an indoor range, used a bench rest and adjusted mine to where they were dead on.

I bought a slim in January and I love it. I wear a pair of wrangler shorts at work and it fits in the front pocket fine. I even kept it there while I was working, (I detail cars) Yes the grip is small, But I was able to find some magazine extenders which has given it a better grip. I am now looking into finding a holster for it. A lot of people call Taurus a crappy gun, well I believe it is one of the best in the market. Not only do they manufacture the gun, they also manufacture the machines that make the guns. Taurus has a LIFETIME repair policy which most makers don't have.

I love mine, not one complaint. I would suggest shooting it before you buy one, and make sure the ergos agree with your hand. But overall, I have not hade one person hold/shoot it that wasn't impressed. Just wish the extended mags would hit the market.....I called Taurus about a month ago and they said they were going to make them, but no production date in sight.

I found magazine extenders that make the grip more comfortable. look on Ebay!!

I bought a PT709 several months ago. Good little gun. I carry it in my front pocket with a Blackhawk pocket holster

I got at Wallyworld for $10. I wear TruSpec 24/7 tac pants, 65/35. Lots of room in all pockets. NIce little pocket on each

side for the extra mag. It is a bit too big for my jeans tho. Grip sticks out a bit.

Good gun for the money, also they come in 40 S&W now as well ( PT740 ).
