Just wondering what some of you opinions were on Glocks and H&Ks. If you had the Choice of carrying a Mid size glock or a H&K USP Compact which would you choose?

Glocks have a much better trigger and are easier to conceal. I had a USPc .40 and sold it within a month.

I had a HK USPc .40SW, I carried it for almost 2 years. I liked it. You can't really compare the two triggers since HK (well depending on which model you get) is DA/SA while Glock is DAO (or whatever they're calling it). If I had to choose, I'd get the Glock since it will be easier to conceal and is quite a bit less expensive and parts are a plenty. My HK was a great gun, but it was like carrying a brick on your hip.

I've finally learned that firearm quality and utility has absolutely nothing to do with price. With firearms, you don't necessarily get what you pay for but some people are enamored by the H&K merely for the price (they want everyone to know they overpayed for something). The Glock, IMHO, is a better weapon and far more useful because it's easier to carry. With firearms, the weapon that you leave at home because it's uncomfortable, is of no use.

HK P2000, V2, hands down. Trigger is infinitely better, same size as a G19, but a couple ounces lighter, rounded edges, better sights, points more naturally, not the odd "Glock angle." Lots of folks complain about the "HK tax;" while I understand that, and certainly wouldn't pay it for any USP series, the P2000 is worth it.

Guess it depends on what style of mag release you like and how much money you have to blow... the nice thing about H&K is their variety of trigger/safety/decocker configurations, and their higher quality sights, tolerances, materials, and ergonomics.

I guess what I'm saying is that it's easier to find an H&K that fits you and is enjoyable to shoot. Want an awesome trigger? The SA trigger in an Expert model is hard to beat. Want fewer controls and a short reset without a super-light initial pull? Check out the LEM... But, if you're looking primarily for cheap and don't mind having a gun that does all of those things mediocre for half the price, get a Glock. I got one for that reason... it's no beauty, and it can't be described as a high-quality precision instrument, but it always shoots and it'll probably last forever even as much as I abuse it. Sometimes that's all that matters.

I like to meet up with you at the range sometime and try that P2000 with the LEM trigger.

Spend the money for the HK USP.

But spend it on a Glock or XD, with a light/laser combo or crimson trace grips. How's that for "bang for you buck"? Pun intended.

If you just want to own the better gun: Glock > H&K

If you just want to say you own the better gun: H&K > Glock

Sure, Hex. We'll figger out something. Bring the canoli. :D

Comparing the USP Compact and the Glock 19 or 23, I favor the Glock. Got to agree with the others, the P2000 V2 is better than ether one of the two you mentioned. That said, the HK is pricey.

I guess I haven't tried enough HK's because I still haven't found one that "fits" me. As far as all the different options go, I haven't been to a gun shop yet that has all those options available (they usually just have the standard models). So you pretty much have to order one and hope its gonna be the one that's gonna fit. I don't know anyone who has that kind of money to keep buying firearms, and taking a slight loss when selling it, just to finally find the right one.

I know that Glock has the "one size fits all" approach (will be fixed with the Gen. 4's) but you can completely customize it for far cheaper than buying an HK. I'm not a "cheap-skate" by any means, I just want value. I realized this when I bought my wife a $50,000 Acura RL and realized that it wasn't twice as much fun to drive as a $25,000 Honda Accord.

Here's the thing, due to how much more they cost most H&K owners are far nicer about their negative aspects than they might be of a more pedestrian maker's gun so their comparisons to others pieces are always clouded with owner's pride than just pure facts...

I've owned and put quite a few rounds through 2 USP's (full size and a compact) both da/sa's, a P2000 lem, and a P30 da/sa and honestly in my experience cannot say they're as good as a Glock, just can't. They all had poorer triggers (me thinks Steelharp has never shot a Glock that's been polished up because the LEM is no better and has nothing on the Glock's reset) than a Glock, and all were far too complicated to detail strip making certain aspects of owning and working on them "off limits".

If you just like them better than Glock's that's one thing, but in function or performance them being better in any aspect just isn't really true IMO.

You might as well have just asked "Ginger or Maryanne?".

That's why. I don't do that with any other pistol. My Glock's had the 3.5 Ghost triggers installed; still couldn't do that with them. For me, function and performance of the HK is unmatched.

From someone who has owned both:

I like the way the Glock carried better. It's kind of "slab slided" and despite the extremely similar dimensions it shares w/ the USPc, it feels smaller.

That said, I shoot the USPc better.

The Glock will save you a little cash, but to me that's a non-factor. If there's a time to be frugal, it's not when choosing a tool to defend your life.

So my final verdict on which is better?

The one that works better FOR YOU. It doesn't matter how well either works, looks, or feels for anyone else.

Nice shooting. How many yards? But, this is not the result of the weapon, this is the result of the shooter, who happens to like this weapon better.

My point has never been that the Glock/HK is better, but that "most" people will shoot just as well with a Glock as a HK and for far less money. They will also, almost universally, find the Glock easier and more comfortable to carry concealed.

Im not taking price into consideration in my decision(I got an H&K USP for less than a new Glock). I havent picked the gun up yet but from what I read on here and another forum everybody seems to be recommending the Glock. I really like my G19 so its gonna take alot to convert me to making the USP my primary carry piece. I guess ill find out when I get back from the range lol.

tntnixon, my practice out in the back yard is with limited space. That's between 15-20 feet. I try to keep most of my practice at closer range; guess I've read too many of the Ayoob stories where the courtroom events show that you have other options than shooting if there's some distance between you, defensively speaking.

I would buy which ever one fits your hand the best and which one you can actually shoot accurately. If I've learned anything its that if the gun doesn't feel comfortable in your hand your not going to enjoy shooting it and you probably won't shoot it well. I have a USP.40 but I'm not enamored with it. I bought it because of the magazine capacity and the fact that it fit my hand better then any of the Glocks or Para-Odinance at the time. I'm not real crazy about the pull/take-up on the double action trigger but that's the nature of the weapon.

I have a HK USPc in .40 with the LEM DAO trigger. I just really enjoy shooting this gun. I have close to 1000 rounds through it with 0 failures. I am accurate with it, and it fits my hand better than the Glock. It took me a little while to get the right holster for carrying it. It turns out that a Don Hume IWB helps me conceal this gun very well and very comfortably (as long as I wear a T-shirt to separate the rough grip from the skin). I carry it a lot.

I think a Glock is just as good of a firearm. Which one do you like to grip, aim and fire? The HK just feels "natural" and balanced in my hand.
