Cherohala Skyway?

Recommended Posts

So unless I'm mistaken, starting very soon we will be able to carry to national parks such as the Smokies... But what about places such as the Cherohala Skyway which is part of the Cherokee National Forest? Does it have different rules b/c it's a national "forrest" vs national "park"?

Cherokee National Forest is fine for carry. This changed back when carry was first allowed in WMA's. It is now on the Forest Service webpage of Cherokee National Forest. http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/cherokee

Cherohala Skyway is listed as a National Scenic Byway....so are the rules different?

Not sure about NC Nantahala National Forest another area the Skyway traverses......hmm.

All this gray area starts to become annoying...I wish the TN state website had it all spilled out for us a little better..

Well, as far as national forest within TN, state statute specifically allows it as long as federal law does not forbid it, which it doesn't.

On Feb. 22, you can carry by federal law in National Parks, but I haven't a clue as to whether "National Park" includes all areas managed by National Park Service or not.

A quick look at National Park managed classifications include:

Obviously, you can't carry at the White House, so I guess a blanket "all areas managed by National Park Service" policy isn't realistic.
