.30-30 Win to .401 Herters Magnum in 3 easy steps ( .41 Mag will also work but requires some trimming too )

then it is to the press with .40 S&W or 10mm dies and some .41 Mag data

Anybody else make something out of something else ?

Yes I have a couple of wildcats and another one one the way. I have a rifle in 30X47 HBR. It is the 300 Savage case with the shoulder pushed back 10 thousands but left the same OAL making a longer neck. It was made up as a hunter class bench rifle. I use it for hunting and informal target work. It is on a Ruger 77 action of all things. It is super accurate.

I have a 14" T/C Contender barrel in 6mm-225 Winchester. It is the old rimed 225 Winchester case necked up to 6mm. It will push an 80 gr Sierra SSP bullet 2700 fps with great accuracy.

I have a 30-30 Ackley Imp 14" Shilen barrel on order from Match Grade Machines (MGM) for my Contender that should be here next week. You are supposed to be able to drive a 125 gr Nosler ballistic tip up to 2600 fps with it. Talk about a deer hammer in a pistol.

Greg,

The only reason I do it is because I got the powermags cheap because the guy said I couldn't get ammo for them I liked the idea of a challenge back then..the .401 is the .41 Mags daddy and with all the 10mm slugs out there I can go from 135gr @1900 to 270 gr @ 1150 so it is pretty versatile for a sixgun.

I agree most ammo today has it all covered but historically speaking wildcats gave birth to some great rounds.. technically for a short time a .308 win was a wildcat so was a .243 win even the star of the moment for some AR folks the 6.8 SPC and the 6.5 Grendel

1shot,. I always liked the works of P.O. Ackley but never enough to ream out one of my '03s to 30-06 AI the .303 Epps conversion either and the 7-30 Waters or the K-Hornet would have been something to play with maybe even a 6mm/.223 someday.. that 30-30 should be quite the deerslayer
