Anyone had any experience with a Pre-ban Tec9? I'm kinda interested but I don't know much about them or their worth. Here is the ad for the one I'm looking at and a pic

"Intratec Tec 9 that is in like new condition. It is a pre ban, open bolt model from the early to mid '80s. I have owned the gun since the mid '80s and have only fired it 2 shots since I've had it. Not 2 clips, not 2 boxes-only 2 shots!!! It comes with a barrell extention, a sling and one (1) 32 round clip. Not cheap, but not your every day Tec 9."

The original KG-9 is a great little blaster, firing from an open bolt and worth about $1200+ these days..... The KG-99, TEC-9, TEC-99, AB-9, AB-10, etc. firing from a closed bolt though are some of the worst firearms ever devised. They might look "cool" but I can assure you they are anything but. The guns jam more than shoot, the lower receivers become very brittle over time and can crack, the only reliable mags are the factory original mags and they are very expensive.

When the KG-9 was banned from further manufacture in 1982 along with all the other open bolt semi-autos it was redesigned as a closed bolt gun and labeled KG-99, eventually the name changed to TEC-9. If you come across an original open bolt gun for a good price give it a try, but pass on all the others. I would not pay anymore than $250 for a closed bolt KG/TEC and even then I would only buy it as a NOVELTY/JOKE that would go into my safe.

If you want a cheap high capacity semi-auto handgun you would be better off with a closed bolt M10, or M11/9. Or just buy a Glock 17 or 19 and use the 33 rd Glock 18 mags.

The 22 version, TEC-22 used the same basic action design of a 10/22, however unlike the 10/22 the quality control was never there. The TEC-22 even use the 10/22 magazines. With a little time a TEC-22 can be made to be a reliable pistol (reliable for a 22LR semi that is) but most of them off the shelf are junk.

Run from it !!!I bought a tek 9 years ago and owned it less than a day. After trying to fire it I returned it and got a Cobray Mac 11. The Mac costs a little bit more but if you really want a semi auto machine pistol, you will be much happier. Personally, if the hi cap mag attracts you I'd get a Glock and a HiCAp mag for it. Just an opinion of course
