Question in reference to HCP for dad

Hello all,

My dad is wanting to get his hcp finally. He has been saying for years he was going to do it and is just now finally following through on it. He has a new Taurus Public Defender that he is going to carry for self defense. He will use it to qualify. Our question is this. Since the 45 colts are so expensive to go range shooting (34.00 a box or higher sometimes) would he be allowed to use the .410 000 buckshot. I told him since "technically" the barrel is rifled I cannot see how this would be a problem but that we would need to check with someone to make sure. What say yall? I mostly am looking for answers from people that actually give hcp classes to others like Phantom6 or what not.

Borrow or rent a 9mm. That will be about as cheap as anything.

Good idea. Aint 22 ammo cheap? He likes revolvers. I may just get a 22 revolver from friend and let him use that. He really likes the public defender even better than his 1994 colt detective special that he traded it for. I told him when he bought it he could expect to pay more for the ammo. It aint like he is hurting for cash he is a shift superintendant at k-25 in oak ridge.

Yeah,

It was going to be about the same price as a box of 45 colt ammo to do that so that is probably what I am going to suggest to him.

Cheapest I have found on the colt is ultramax 200 grain at 31.99 at cabellas. But by the time you pay shipping and handling it would be just as cheap to buy it locally.

Some of the places have free loaners. .22 long rifle box of 50 less than $5.00. That is is my brother did at Guns and Leather back in November. Check several places the price of the class can change as much as $20.00 or more.

Yeah we have shopped around. The cheapest classes we are finding is 50.00 and 75.00 classes. Both charge around 30.00 for the firearms to rent.
