Where in Africa are you wanting to go? (It's a pretty big place, I assume you're going through Joburg, but you know what you get when you assume.)

Are you going for vacation or other? (Missionaries or NGO employees often get discounts from airlines.)

I've been to Kenya and my brother has been to SA, Kenya, Tanzania, Ivory Coast, etc quite a bit. I/we always went through London and used Air Emirates through Dubai into Africa. Flying Air Emirates coach is like flying any American airliners first class for half the price. Very nice. If you go to Kenya/Tanzania there are a number of lodges on the edges of the Masa Mari that can be had dirt cheap if you know who to ask. Try to go through your hotel in Nairobi for connection. Just be careful and stay with a group. DO NOT go to Mombasa.

I'm going to uganda to see our orphanage. i wish i would be able to hunt...but we are planning on a safari. in the past we have flown emirates but it is costly. already got yellow fever vac and it is good for 10 years!

i wish i would be able to go on a hunt, that is what my plan was but things change, plus the hunting in uganga isn't that great, you really need to go to south africa for anything good. maybe the next trip when the kids are older i will be able to squeeze it in there.

There was a time when Uganda was a good hunting country. Kenya, its neighbor was possibly the best.

Today the easiest way to hunt Africa, and the cheapest, is South Africa. For some game especially plains game, SA is excellent.

For harder hunting and for some of the greatest trophies still out there for harder to find game there are better countries. Currently the best hunting countries in Africa are Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana, and Namibia. Zambia is excellent for dangerous game and Tanzania has in recent years made a strong surge with some excellent hunting and good game management.

It's expensive, there are very few outfitters and there has been little game management. Elephant, Buff and Leopard is most of what is being hunted.

Same as in Kenya, Zimbabwe, Tanzania. They closed off hunting until they started realizing their herds were becoming more problematic than they were growing. Guess what! They needed hunting to help control and balance the ecosystem. It is good that they are managing their hunts now instead of turning people loose. It is also a HUGE boon to their economies.

There is still no hunting in Kenya. The problems in Kenya are also not unmanageable herds, it is a complete lack of herds. None of the major hunting countries have dwindling numbers, in fact some of them have increased their tags in recent years because the herds are very strong especially in terms of elephants.

Naturally Kenya's problems are easy to understand, once the hunters all left with their guns and game management, the only people left were the poachers. Poachers operate much faster than the game departments can. Those poachers have decimated, in some cases exhausted game. In the hunting countries by contrast those herds have flourished, the exact opposite of what anti-hunting groups claimed would happen. No surprise to those of us who understand hunting and conservation.

Because of the income derived from hunters many countries over there would love to have or increase hunting, some have waited nearly too long.

Oh and by the way how do the game managers handle poachers over there in the countries with hunting? They just shoot em.

Hunting in Africa is not cheap, though you can go there and hunt cheaper than many types of hunts even here in North America. However, there is still no place on earth with more plentiful and exciting game.
