What's the difference in "Made in Germany" and "Made in W.Germany?" Is there a quality difference?

Well, see way back in time, German was split into two parts, East and West Germany.......

"Made in West Germany" would be just an older specimen, manufactured prior to the early 1990's reunification.

I'm surely going to get some flack for this but yeah, I believe there is a difference in quality. Both of the Sigs I currently own (P220 & P226) were "Made in Germany" and are of a better quality in both fit and especially finish than the ones I used to own that were "Made in West Germany." Just my :screwy:.

I've owned both and quality seemed the same, very high!!! My P6 was stamped Made in West Germany, 12/79. My P228 Made in Germany, 01/90!!! COOP

Some folks claim the US made Sigs aren't as good as the German made pistols. I've had several of both and not had problems with either (except the 1911).

All of the classic series (even newer p228Rs) are manufactured wholly in Exeter NH now, as is the p250 AFAIK. The mosquito is made in Germany.

Actually, The frames are made in Germany, the slides are made in the USA.

It depends on who you ask I suppose. The number of W. German SIGs is fixed, there will be no more, so that makes them a bit more collectible if that's of interest to you. I certainly like mine, the only reason I'm selling it is because I don't shoot it enough anymore to justify keeping it. I'm trying to downsize my collection by selling guns that are redundant or not being shot anymore.

Manufactured in GERMANY...Assembled in the USA. As long as the UAW isn't on the assembly line I'm good

No, I have no interest there. Just in reliability, accuracy, and quality of manufacture. You know, like the Kimber Clackamas/Yonkers deal. I had a Clack; one of the best 1911's I ever had... wish I still had it... :)

Good replies from the TGO members...for further research check out the Sigforum....excellent resources and this topic is discussed thoroughly...even running thru the different models and what to look for....

That's pretty much my view as well. My W. German P220 has been reliable and accurate, and quality of manufacture is pretty much a given in this case.

"Reliability, accuracy, and quality of manufacture" pretty much sums it up regarding Sigs.

I have had both W.German, German, and American Sigs...all metal guns....all excellent...no discernable difference on fit/finish on any of them. Sigs thing about giving customers one mag though on the new guns is a complete crock of sh*t and is probably why they wont see me purchasing a new one in the foreseeable future....unless they change back to the 2 mags they used to give. If they had lowered the prices to reflect the missing mag that would have been ok, but their bs story about not having enough yet they still sell them "a la carte" just p*sses me off.

While at the range this weekend, I was thumbing through a November 09 issue of American Rifleman that said Sig was back to shipping with 2 mags. I don't know if its true or not but its worth looking into.

Just checked with some Google browsing and you are indeed correct :) Now I wonder if any of the new ones bought that only recieved one will get a 2nd mag ;)
