From the Crossbreed web site FAQ:

Q2.

Should I get a holster made of horsehide?

Answer:

Horsehide is a denser and tighter grained flesh than cowhide. This results in it being more moisture resistant. Customers in very humid climates or who tend to sweat heavily find this to be a useful option as horsehide tolerates dampness better. Horsehide is only available in natural as it's moisture resistance can also cause it to not take dye well. Additionally, the natural finish is very attractive on Horsehide.

Horsehide is a limited option as it is not always available, during times when it is not available, the option will be removed from the selections. In other words, if you see it, you can order it.

I have the cowhide version, but I don't wear it next to my skin, so the moisture issue is a non-issue for me.

I have the cowhide version so I can't answer your direct question but I wanted to chime in that I have a supertuck and it is very comfortable. I'm new to carrying so I don't have much to compare it to but it seems like a good product from a good company.

I have a horsehide for my 1911,and a cowhide for my 24/7,they are both quality holsters, the horsehide does take awhile to break in though.I've worn my horsehide constant for about 2 months and is still not fully broken in,I would say they are very tough, should last a good while.

Currently I have a Minotaur MTAC on order due to the Crossbreed I have for the 1911,s fits the railed frames, the Mtac is ordered specifically for my RIA in the 3.5 inch barrel.I have had the MTAC before and they are also a very nice and comfortable holster which is also fully adjustable for cant angle.

After checking around I am pretty sure this is the way I am headed. I was wondering if the horsehide upgrade was a good idea or should I just stick with the cowhide ?

Thanks for any input

I've had the horsehide for more than a year. I'm hot natured and not had a problem with sweat from it. I'ld buy it again.

BTW... I had the old style (plastic) belt clips and one finally broke. :( Crossbreed happily sent me a complete new set of the metal ones at no charge. This company really stands behind their product. :D

I know a lot of people who swear by the MTAC. I am more of a Comp Tac C Tac kind of guy. It is less bulky. I have been wearing it daily for about two years with no issues. Very nice and well made. It is comfortable and easy to conceal.

You should give it a look.

how long was the break in time ?

I'd say a good 6 months but I did not carry with it everyday. Would switch between shoulder rig (fall & winter) and crossbreed (spring & summer). I would go shoulder rig year round but it's not practical in the summer.
