I have noticed upon close inspection of the G.I. model Springfield, that the chamber and barrel appear to be 2 separate pieces joined by a barely noticeable seam.Has anyone else noticed this and can anyone please explain as to why this was done, if it is infact the case.

Do you know then, what the seam between the chamber and barrel is.It is enough of one that you can feel it with your fingernail and it is clearly visible.

Well, I found my own answer and it seems that the Springfield Armory GI guns do indeed have 2 piece barrels.Their higher end guns do not.Although, it should be noted that to date there has been no report of a SA 2 piece barrel failing.

The seam looks like a thin hair on my Mil-Spec barrel and is undetectable by touch. Practically invisible until you know its there. I'm pretty sure that seam is supposed to be flush. Maybe you should contact Springfield? Better safe than sorry...

Yep, they do. I've seen several manufacturers use a two-piece. I tend to shy away from them. You can get a decent drop-in ss one piece for a reasonable amount. However, you can spend a little more a get a match grade one fitted. Here (link below) is what I went with. Had Wilson do it while she was there. Runs like a dream.

For all who don't know NM prefix on Springers does not mean National match it is only a prefix noting that the frame was finished in the USA as opposed to Brazil. Just throwing out some trivia
