This is worth the read.

If you will vote on governor based soley on 2A, Ramsey,Wamp and Haslam look like our best friends.

I was honestly suprised at Haslams answers.

(sorry too difficult to copy and paste it all here.)

Those Dems just plain scare me.

Ain't that the truth. Their logic on just the Guns in Bars law baffles me.

So I go to a Applebees, can't control myself and start drinking while carrying. I mean if I am going to drink while carrying, is some law going to stop me anyway? On top of that 99.99% of HCP holders are extremely law abiding and don't do, would never consider doing what these people just flat out assume is going to happen.

I will never understand how people ( some of these candidates) think it is fine to be able to lord over us, picking and choosing where we are allowed the basic right of self defense.

It's purely an uninformed emotional reaction. What I don't understand is how they can cling to those views in the face of logic. I just don't know what to do with that mindset, except not vote for it.

Thanks for the post.

■ KYLE: I strongly oppose it. Even in

the Wild West you had to check your

firearms at the door of the saloons. In

the 21st century we should have the

common sense to know that guns and

alcohol do not mix.

It's good to know there are politicians out there willing to base their decisions on what they saw in movies.....

I don't believe Haslam for a minute. During the legislation review of the guns in parks I sent emails back and forth with him. His response was always, I agree, but we'll just have to see. He's been trying to distance himself from joining Mayors Against Guns, which he was a former member. Gotta appear conservative. He also didn't vote on the Guns in Parks bill he's so proud of supporting.

City ban on guns in parks stands Knoxville News Sentinel

Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam, who’s seeking the Republican nomination for governor, didn’t vote but gave the vote his support, saying the intersection of greenways and gun-free zones such as schools would make repealing the ban impractical.

“I think the best course of action would be to keep the ordinance we have,” he said.

Margaret Thatcher once said, "Consensus is the absence of leadership." He can try to sound more conservative, as long as a majority vote stays in his favor. No thanks.

Thanks for posting this for us Mike. There is, however, something to remember about Mayor Haslam's chief of police, Sterling Owen. He was in the famous photo op standing beside Gov. Bredesen showing his support of the veto of the original "guns in restraurants" bill, along with the usual bunch of big city chiefs of police who opposed the legislation. He was nodding approvingly when Bredesen made the foolish remarks about "I support the second amendment"; BUT "guns and alcohol dont mix.".

I'm not afraid of what Haslam believes about the Second Amendment. I am afraid of the company he has decided to keep. Sterling Owen could easily hold a high level cabinet post in a Haslam gubanatorial administration. We do not need people like Sterling Owen in Tennessee State Government. He is no friend to the Second Amendment.

Food for thought.

Maybe I missed something, but I thought Ramsey seemed firmly on our side.

just an oversight on my part, nothing sinister going on

(fixed the OP, mentioned Ramsey for everyone)

I'm really leery of Haslam. Just the fact that he had anything to do with that  bag Bloomberg's organization is a deal breaker for me. That he quit when he decided he may want to run for governor and joined the NRA instead just sends up all kinds of red flags about the guy.

If he really supported the 2nd, he'd have been an NRA member all along. Not just when it became politically expedient to try and get their endorsement based on how he fills out their questionnaire.

I'm sure I'll probably lose him a bunch of votes with my endorsement, but Ramsey's looking like my guy. :D

Ramsey or Joe Kirkpatrick for me. Both are solid on all the issues... including my personal favorite - things that go Boom.

Gosh, I wish my State Senator - Mae Beavers - would run for Governor. She would make a great one!

ETA: Haslam said he favors HCP holders to be permitted to carry in parks, yet he said he would have voted against such back in September when the vote came up in Knoxville. The guy is trying to hoodwink somebody...

I like Zach Wamp personally. I've met him a few times and he is a pretty good guy (hold on...big BUT coming here)

He voted for the bank bailout or the first stimulus package, don't remember which and they may be one and the same. Also, when he originally ran for congress he promised to leave after 2 terms. He let that one go by the way pretty quickly after he got elected.

So, he is a no go for me unless it is him vs a dem. Then I guess I will hold my nose and vote.
