it is great show my kids love it.

it gives them great feel for our nature.

i do some simple camping/survivor with my kids. just simple fire making with few hot dogs can be so much fun:D

it beats sitting on PC all day any time

Man vs Wild is an entertaining show, and should be viewed as such. No one, including survival "experts" should try to duplicate his antics. He has a whole crew following him around and it has been documented that he doesnt stay in the field during filming.

With that said, I have gotten a kick or chuckle from watching him do stupid sh*t that would more than likely lead to death to a survivor/evader.

This guy just gave himself an enema of rancid water. That almost tops the time he drank his own urine from a snakeskin.

Ok, The urine thing..he's done several, including filtering and condensation stuff to get water, I guess I could see it...but what on earth does an enema of rancid water do for you? Other than the obvious!

Possibly build up an immunity to the local bacteria and microbes through your lower gut, so drinking the water doesn't make you sick or kill you? Dunno, but that's the only possibility that comes to mind... other than maybe he's just a bit flakey/weird.

Survivor Man.....real stuff, no concierge! That's why he can't/won't do it anymore. Les was taking a real beating doing his show, Bear just suffers a bit before heading in for dinner and a bath.

Not in the least. Bear was British Special Services and you seem to think he's got some mojo.

Maybe 2% or less of the members of this board could meet the standards needed to pass training and then serve in any of those elite units.

You can absorb some of it in system ...the main thing the colon does is absorb water out of your waste.

Famous story of the Robertson family, all SIX of them, catamaran sunk in minutes by a pod of killer whales in 1971 while on a Pacific crossing. They made it 38 days with next to nothing; one way they made it was wife was a nurse, and gave everybody salt water enemas every day, or several times a day, or whatever.

I read the book long time ago, called Survive the Savage Sea.

No way I would pass the requirements for any "special services", no matter which branch. However, I'll bet I could survive most any place you dumped me, provided I had at least the minimal basic equipment required. ( Nobody would last more than a few minutes naked in Antarctica, for instance. You'd need at least the proper clothing and a few other basics to even have half a chance. )

I've been amazed at how many people on Survivor don't even have a working knowledge of how to start a fire without matches... I would think that would be something everyone should be able to do. And I won't even get into foraging for food or building a shelter. :o

Bear told this story in the episode where he himself did the enema.

I love watching him just because he is crazy as hell. Like the vietnam episode were he kept sticking the camera in the cobra's face, priceless.

I'm guessing you didn't see the one where he squeezed water out of elephant crap and drank it, or ate a dead zebra, or slept inside of a dead camel, or.... :o
