Ice Maker HELP!!!!

Amana refrigerator....replacement icemaker....any ideas? Lowes has 2 models, the one I got aint it. The motor and ice making thingy fits, but the electrical connector does not. If lowes has the other kind it is easy enough to replace. Is there anything else I need to look for? The frige is a side by side, with water and ice in the freezer side. Water works fine, just no ice, so I don't think it is a water issue, no leaking water either. Shouldn't be clogged. So that is why I think it is the motor in it.....Any help or ideas?

Yea, we got a lot of old school ones...they suck with a bunch of games and water bottles, and my mom when she is here, uses a bag's worth for her drinks.

I don't use ice....except when I have a little Jack...

There are two water valves on a Ice/Water the one for the ice maker is on the same side bottom left looking at it. Check the Ohms to see if it is clog, some times they clog you can take it apart just be careful. Before you do that you can cycle the old one, take the front cover off, there is a big gear and small one, turn the small one easily and if it's stuck it will start to work. if you turn it and can't feel/hear the motor it's the maker. this is the parts house I use. repairclinic.com will probably have a replacement unit for your fridge.

Our icemaker works when it wants to. It now has a couple of drips that form stalagtites down into the ice tray.

Sometimes it makes hollow ice, sometimes it makes no ice, sometimes the tray makes icebergs. And yes sometimes it works like it was brand new.

Fixing the oven was a heck of a lot easier.

My advice as a doctor is to tell you to drink heavily. That and buy a bag of ice on your way back from the liquor store.

Motor sounds like it is running, just no movement of the gears..this is by hearing and visual, haven't taken the box apart...yet.

newbie, ours does that too, it is meaningless.

When you need ice most the icemaker knows this and acts accordingly. Which of course means it does not work. Our motor grinds too, then it does not grind and works fine.

But what the heck, I have to sop water out from under the veggie drawers twice a week, the icemaker is tempermental ( while I am totally mental) But it still keeps food mostly cold. I am good to go.

Is your little metal wire thingy down? I know it is obvious, but ya never know without axin' the question. My wife axes me all the time if I have seen her glasses when they are on top of her head.

Maybe we can do a group buy on a new icebox

If you hear the motor and it's not turning it is toast:(

This is not helping....well it is...but.....I got to find the right motor....It is a noticable motor noise. I hear it when it is plugged in, don't when it is not.

I don't have an Ohm tester, just a circuit tester with the point/sharp as hell end that I end up bleeding everytime I use it...seriously.

Are Amanas "GE or Whirlpool" in disguise? In otherwords, like on many appliances, the "other" brands use basically the same innards as one of the big ones?

67.95... Jay1313 gave me some info on a local appliance parts place he has used that is a couple of miles away, thanks for that. Will take out mine and verify that is what I need with them and pick one up and rebuild it.

Icebox..that's what they were called out in the country when I was growing up. Thanks to my grandaddy, I still will call them that occasionally!

Ok, took the other kit back to Lowes, went back to look at the other one just to see what it looks like. It looks 99% identical. Yay right. Not so fast.

This new kit is for Whirlpools. Get it back and compare the motor and control module shown below, same numbers on on the molded plastic, same sticker, etc. Two differences. The numbers, the number on the white wheel is 626681 on the new one, the old one is 628358. Remember, the brownish molded plastic numbers are the same (if you look below, the numbers are raised on the brown plastic where the "PA" is located on the "RePAirclinic" watermark goes across it) Secondly, The wiring harness was similar, male, but the new one was not deep enough to snap closed. I figured out the wiring harness is completely detachable, so I took off the old wiring harness, replaced the new one so it would fit the frig's wiring harness. The old wiring harness snapped right into the new motor and control module. So I assume, it fits fine. The numbers and voltage on the both wiring harness match, 105C 600V VW-1.

How do I know it is working? I can't hear anything at all. The old one buzzed, this one makes no noise, so I'm not 100% sure it is getting power, the gears move so slowly, can't tell if it is moving or not, it takes like 2-3 hours to make any ice, and 24-48 hours to fill the bucket.

How do you know the water is coming in? I see no evidence of water coming in. Like I mentioned, the water side works in the door, there are no leaks. I haven't had ice build up in there, it is almost like it doesn't get water either. Should it have been at least freezing up somewhere or should I go ahead and replace the pump too. This kit came with one.
