Does anyone know how long the current turn around time is for most GA orders? It said 5-7 weeks the last time I looked, but it doesn't list a time on the site now. Are they caught up?

I ordered a 500 rd box of 9mm Canned Heat about a month ago, took three business days to recieve the order.

FWIW I think the particular ammo sucks. Not accurate at all, overall length is shorter than Federal or WWB. I would not re-order it personally.

But I have bought Canned Heat in .45ACP in the past and it was good stuff.

So who knows?

They list what they can quick ship on the front page. Everything else seems to take 4-6 weeks except for 357 sig which may or may not ship.

I've had really good luck with their .380, 9mm and 40. I have to admit though that I've never measured it. I think I have some 40 and 9mm here. I will measure it for the heck of it.

I tell you the stuff is awful. I don't even want to shoot it. Too frustrating.

Rounds could go anywhere, 12 inches up or down or side to side. Worst stuff I have ever shot. Only good to see if the gun cycles.

Did you contact them about it? I bet they would make it right.

I can confirm. The stuff Mike got is wildly inconsistent.

Oddly, it also had more power than normal 9mm FMJ, almost like it was +p.

Did you ever pull a bullet to see if it's seated too deeply or just a shorter bullet than normal 115 gr.?

I also got some .357 and .38 low power cowboy loads from GA at a show, some of the packages were like random bottle rockets, some seemed okay.

The same 9mm Canned Heat I got from them a year ago or so was fine, though. I also stashed some 9mm+p Gold Dot and some full power .357 hollowpoint from them that was all fine, too.

I ordered 500 rounds of 10mm from GA Arms, and it was a different length (shorter?). When i called them about it, they told me it wasn't enough to make a difference.

I never used the ammo, but the person I sold the gun and ammo to had nothing but trouble with it. I don't know if the ammo was the issue, or the gun just started screwing up, but I know that I had zero issues with the gun when shooting American Eagle ammo. Who knows?

I will just take it as a lesson learned. I have shot about 200 of the 500 rounds. I'll use the rest to make noise with.

I did not pull a bullet, I would guess that they are seated deeper to try to make up for using less powder to save money on the loads.

I believe I'd call em too, just to see if you get same brush off as TDR.

Sounds like a bad day on the assembly line to me.

Okay, I just pulled a bullet from the Canned Heat, and a bullet from a Federal.

Actually the Canned Heat is just slightly longer than the Federal.

Both appeared to have a similar amount of powder. I did not weigh it.

I only have one batch of 9mm 115 gr to compare right now:

Out of the five I checked 4 were 29.15 and (1) was 28.1. On the short one the brass appears to be just a tiny bit shorter. The WWB I have were all 29.10

I have some of their 125 gr gold dots that came out to 29.13 which was the same as some speer frangible I have. I also have some speer loaded gold dots which measure the same.

for the 40 S&W:

georgia arms canned heat: 29.12

GA gold dot:29.11

Hornady Tap: 29.13

So, at least for the ammo I have on hand, the 357 sig and 40 S&W are pretty consistent. The 9 shows some issues, at least on the ones I checked. I think I will check some more tomorrow when I have more time.

This is interesting and I'm learning some stuff. This will help when I start loading my own in a few weeks.

One other interesting thing: the GA 357 gold dot uses gold dot bullets and speer brass. It is visually identical to the speer gold dot. It also is 1/2 the price. Is there any chance that GA loads this for speer as a subcontractor?

They've quit offering the Gold Dot bullet, at least in 9mm, some time ago. Their top 'o the line for 9mm now "Speer bonded unicore hollowpoint".

More reloading type questions related to this. I got my Lyman manual out (only one I have so far). It doesn't have a 115 gr FMJ, just a JHP. It lists that length as 27.69 which is a bit shorter than the various FMJ stuff I have. Is there a definitive length for 115 FMJ?

The critical defense 9mm that I have left is 27.08

Speer GD (if I remember it is 124 gr from speer) 28.12

My head is starting to spin and I haven't even put my press together yet...

They are coming to the Knoxville show at the end of the month. You should ask them then, maybe even take a round or two in to show them.

I've never had a problem with their ammo. Granted, it's range ammo, but it's alway gone bang with no problem.

The stuff goes bang just fine, but it does not go where it is aimed.

I bought mine for range use and would only use it for SD if the SHTF.

Some of the cowboy loads I mentioned wouldn't hit within a foot of each other at 10 yards with 2-5" barreled handguns. Mike.357's 9mm loads varied about the same from 50 yards, using carbine.

"Range" ammo ain't much use if it isn't at least moderately consistent.

My 40 S&W has been good, at least what I have shot so far.
