I'm in if you need an extra hand. Just let me know when and where... I'll even buy the libations after the hunt.

Whiskey, we found the feeders, they were empty. We know at least two pigs were trapped and killed because we found dried blood in both traps. That's about all we found though. We know their travel areas and where they feed (for the most part) and bedding areas. I think they may have killed a bunch though. Very little sign of them.

Hogs is something I've been planning to hunt for a long time. There's not a lot in my area though. Oh yeah hi everybody I'm a newbie on here.

I got my boar head finished up finally. I'll get a picture posted tomorrow (hopefully). It's been a long time since I mounted one. Kinda forgot how time consuming it really was.

We took him in Stewart County where there isn't supposed to be any feral hogs. By description (hair with split ends) he is a pure Russian boar. Took him on the opening weekend of bow season. He dressed at 250 and is 31.5 inches around the neck right behind the ears. Can't wait to get another one!

Crossbow with 125gr "Rage" broadheads. Hit him at about 20 yards. All he could say was "grunt, oink, and see ya later, good bye". The other hog with him was bigger, and I wanted no part of it with bow!

Thanks Jason, Really means alot from you! Get with me, and we're going after them with bow, during the turkey season. I'll PM you my number.

Gnarly wd, very gnarly porker indeed, my friend...you did good on the "afterlife preservation" for Mr.Piggy!

Oh an thanks to everyone who pointed me to the 45/70... that is an awesome big game cartridge... I made a nice double lung shot and I swear the 45/70 picked him up and threw him down the hill... it was like something out of a movie. He got back up and only made it a few steps before he gave it up. I used the Ruger #1 that I bought off this forum... great gun with a great big game cartridge... definitely enough gun for the job.

Thanks for all of the help everyone! I have a freezer full of meat and am going after more hogs in Florida in a few weeks... this time with a bow.... bring it on!

Chris,

That's awesome you got the hog with the #1. That is a great rifle and the 45-70 is my favorite hunting cartridge for around here.

I am absolutely in love with that rifle and that cartridge is a freaking hammer! Thanks!

Chris, did you shoot him with a handload or factory load? The reason I'm asking is the Ruger is super strong and will handle some mean loads.

Posted

Factory. Used the Hornady rounds. I was quite pleased with the results.

Seems he is saying "That's all folks!"

Now that you mention it....

Had a face-to-face showdown with one Friday, that would go about 175lb. Just a little bit un-nerving!
