Is anyone using CareAll?

I need to know if anyone here is using one of the home healthcare services like CareAll for the care of a family member. I'm not limiting the question to CareAll but any other company that is caring for a loved one.

My parents are in declining health. My mom has mild to moderate Alzheimer's and my dad's memory is nearly as bad but has not been diagnosed yet. He also can barley walk. He had a stroke back in the early 90's.

I have been trying to take care of them myself so that I don't have to put them into a home. I have been trying to work from home but I am just not able to make enough money at it yet. I have been trying to get a PT job where the hours would fit my needs but any job is hard to come by now and finding one that also allows me to care for them has been impossible. I can't lose my home and there is not room for them here and it is not handicap accessible. I have spent all of my cash and been living on CC's lately. I need someone to help care for them so that I can find work.

I just talked with CareAll and it sounds like they can offer what they need for $22.50 per hour with a 4 hour minimum.

Has anyone had any dealings with them or have you used anyone else that you would recommend? I would like to know anything that you would share about this type of service so that I can know our options and also know what to expect.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

My brother tried to use them to take care of my mom, but they weren't available at the time and referred us to Sitters, Inc in Brentwood. I believe their rate is lower, like $18/ hr. I guess they do a good job, we've had to use them a couple of times to assist my mom.

The guy from Careall was in the news a few months ago for IIRC, some kind of Medicare billing malfeasance, but I don't know what happened with that. Check out Sitters, the guy you need to talk to there is named Beau.

Sounds like you've got some hard decisions to make though, larger than just which sitter service to use.

Thanks for the info Hex and you are so right about the hard decisions. I never had stress issues or depression issues until now. Nothing serious yet.

I'll give them a call.

Specifically what part of Nashville are they in? Are they, or have they been on any home health services before?

You are not considering placing them in an assisted living facility if a suitable one was found?

Hate to be so blunt in these questions, but it is critical for me to know the circumstances so that I may point you in the right direction. My entire practice is elderly dementia patients in the community / facilities / nursing homes. I deal with dozens and dozens of home health care / hospice / sitter services daily. I have multiple contacts for you, depending on what services they need.

You're in a very tough spot. Let's try to get you some help.

I've pm'd Bronker about what he can do to help but I would still like more input. Surely there have been some more guys with experience with these companies.

Being in Knoxville this post is about the elderly in general not about Care All or any specific provider.

My mother has been in and out of a nursing home for about 7 years and completly confined to one for the past 4. Last fall I also had to put my father in one. Prior to 2006 while Dad was trying to care for Mother at home we tried various home health services. I couldn't tell you who the vendors were. What I can tell you is that we weren't very successful with them. It wasn't because of any problem with the providers it was because neither of my parents would cooperate. They alway said they didn't need them, didn't want them in the house, if one specific person didn't show up the minute the appt. was for they assumed they weren't coming and complained, etc. I admire you for trying to do this yourself but you most likely can't. Even with them having around the clock care just taking care of their Dr. appts., fianances and their house is a strain on my house and marrage.

I recently had to get some help for my 84 year old Grandmother. She doesn't necessarily need home health care but needed someone to drive her to doctors appointments and just stay with her on occasion. She lives in Hermitage (Eastern Davidson County) and we found Home Instead. They came out, spent some time with us and we booked them for a day the following week. Grandma loves them. They have been out again and the whole family is pleased with this service. We even have a friend whose mom is now using them as well. The care givers are sometimes younger retirees so the understand the needs of both ladies. They drive her places, have done some LIGHT housekeeping, taken her shopping etc. Their rates are also around $22.50 If they use their car and $16.50 if they use Grandma's car. She has had them do both. There is a 2 hour minimum. I give them an a :up: so far. The main website is Home Instead Senior Care; Elderly Homecare; Non-Medical Home Health Care and the Office we went through is (615) 553-4297. Good luck and I sincerely hope this helps.

Thanks for that info DavidD. I have been trying to get my parents to go look at assisted living locations but they are dead set against leaving their home. My dad is afraid of elevators and will refuse to even consider a multilevel facility. They can't comprehend that I only want them to look at them and decide which one they would like to be in when the time comes. They seem to think that I'm gonna stick them in one right away. It looks like I am going to have to check them out myself and make the choice without any input from them.

I'm glad to hear a good report of Home Instead. It sounds like something that would be beneficial.
