Well it looks like im going to have to have surgery next week on my shoulder. It happens to be my right shoulder and i am right handed and all my holsters are rightys as well. I carry my comp 45xd every day and i dont plan on being unarmed for the 3 months that they are saying i will be in a sling.

So here goes, im looking for a small frame pistol that i can put in the sling that is in a med to large caliber. Whats out there and if you were in the same situation what would you get.

Oh yea, i will be shooting lefty so i guess i get to go shoot some to get the hang of it, lol

p.s. my wife actually gave me the idea of getting a new gun that i could carry after surgery, god i love that woman

3 months in a sling? Who's doing the work...Dr McCoy from Star Trek? You should be out of a sling and into Physical Therapy in about 10-14 days. Keep it ICED. As for the gun...I think the Kel-Tec would be right up your alley...attach it to some rig that extends and retracts so it can "hide" in the sling

I have a Taurus 856 that I like pretty well for a small frame revolver. It is a compact, like the 85 or S&W J frame, but it is a 6 shot rather than 5. They are pretty affordable if you shop around a bit. I bought a stainless new for $415 otd. It points pretty well, and with a bumbed arm, you will not have to worry about clearing a jam from an automatic.

I would think a revolver would make sense. Operating the slide w/ a bum arm could be a problem. Laser also makes a lot of sense for off hand shooting. J-frame w/ laser would be the way I would go.

I would prefer to have more land but when we moved to TN I was not sure how long we would be here but I have grown to like Nolensville

You could also get some plaster of paris from Hobby Lobby and make your own built in holster added onto the cast your doctor gives you.

i just had shoulder surgery in december. 8 weeks in a sling with a wedge (so i can't rotate toward body) then 4 more weeks in regular sling after this one.

i can't rack a slide, or god forbid remove a jam in a crisis, or reload with any efficiency, so i am currently revolver bound.

i've also discovered that my pump shotgun here at the house has effectively become a single shot, if i can even get the first shot off. :hijack:
