RK - Knoxville Gun Show

Hey guys, Boomhower and I went to the gun show this morning and I was very disappointed. Now this is the first one I've been too before but I have researched prices on various products and when we got there and started looking around the prices was way too high. I think there was one vendor that was close to what the prices were in the store. I thought guns shows was where you could find deals and such.

Was I going in there with the wrong attitude? Or is all guns shows higher priced than in the store? I just want to make sure before I say "I'm never going back to one!"

OK , now I am pissed. Why were you and Boom at a gunshow and I was not invited?

Don't look for great deals on guns Pokey. Most of the gun sellers are gun shops around here and the prices reflect that. Sometimes I feel I can find a good deal on ammo, but mostly I find something I did not know I was looking for and the price is good, so I buy something and I leave happy.

I haven't gone to a gun shot in about three years because my experience is about like Pokey's. Why would I want to pay to go in a place to shop for stuff at higher prices than I can get locally?

BTW, as some may have noticed I'm doing an indoor Christmas show this weekend helping my wife and we vendors are footing the entire cost for the admission. That's right the public gets in for FREE and our booth cost is only $95. I see no reason gun shows shouldn't be run the same way.

Hey Mike, sorry for the non-invite..it was an impulse decision made late on Friday...:(

Yep, I'll have to say that it was quite disappointing. I realize that most of the guys there are actual gun shop owners, but I've found prices easier to shallow at Gander Mtn. than at 98% of the tables at the show (when looking at guns), and I think we can all agree that GM is pretty over priced. I found one table that I would have considered doing business with, if I were looking for another gun, but since I'm still fairly new in the specifics of all things gun related, I was really going to see what it was all about. I have been several times in my younger days with my father who has found good deals, but at that time I wasn't even able to buy a gun and I saw nothing of that nature at this particular gun show.

Accessories: yeah they had them, but once again, no deals found.

Ammo: yep, had that too. Reloads (as I was well aware of before entering), but when I can go to walmart and deal with their non-service issues and buy a 100rd box of 9mm WWB for a few dollars more than I can buy a 50 rd bag of somebody else's reloaded ammo for, I'll take door #1 everytime. When it comes to my money, I value every cent.

Maybe I'm just living in the internet days, but almost everything I was looking for, I can find on-line for cheaper including taxes and shipping (I did my research before I went) and have it sent straight to my door step. I'll even pay a little more on line since if it's going to save me from using my valuable government oil that they charge me so much for.

However, I only wish I had more time to complete my search for a gun shop that's local to me, that I am willing to do majority of my business with. And for those of you that will rebuke me speaking of internet sales and all of the so called insociable behavior that comes with it, I am not above spending more than a guns value in order to achieve a good purchase with service. I drove a little over 3 hours to make my last gun purchase with our good buddies over in Winchester. Added about $50 more dollars to the over all price of the gun, but it was well worth it to be able to meet those guys FTF and visit their shop. Thus the reason I am looking for a local shop to call home, but until I can find some extra hours in the day, I will continue to be an internet warrior and purchase most of my needs over the WWW.

Oh and Sorry Mike. I thought about calling you and Dave, but by the time Pokey and I finilized our plans, it was 11pm, and I didn't want to bother anyone that late and night, and I really wouldn't want anyone to call me at 8am and ask if I wanted to go to a gun show that started at 9am only to have to leave by 11am, so I didn't bother on Sat. morning either. If I ever decided to go to another one, maybe we can plan it out a little ahead of time and meet up.

It's all good Boom and Pokey, just razzin you a little :(

I agree with Boom that you can find things cheaper over the internet. Every time I have bought from the internet the net result was saving some money. Got to include gas in there too. I also do not mind in some case spending more, the botom line is, does it make me happy? If so then I don't mind. I guess that is why I do not mind the bitter pill sometimes of paying to go to a gun show. I enjoy the fact that I can see a lot of gun stuff without having to drive all over the place.

Boom I am with you on the gun shop thing. Maybe there is one out there somewhere but none of the local ones really excite me much. There are a few in Tri-Cities and Greenville i like though. And as for ammo it is hard to beat WalMart.

If I had gone to this show I would have been looking for bullets most likely. But I don't doubt I would have found something else I did not know I wanted.

oofff...I forgot that part. But then again, all I saw in peoples hands were guns and I wasn't looking for a gun.....Well, ok, I'm always looking for a gun, but can I buy is the question. And right now, the answer to that is NO.
