I was just looking at a thread a few min ago about pics of a gen 4 glock. I had no idea there was generations of these. I have a Glock model 23 chambered in .40 cal. I bought about 10 years ago or longer. What gen. would that be? Are there any big differances in the generations? Anything else I should know about this pistolia pros or cons. I love this gun but probaly only fun about 2 or 3 boxes of shells through it.

Thanks eggman:koolaid:

Cool thanks it does have finger groves.Looks just like the one on the right. It is really amazing how much I have learned in just the few days I have been here reading and asking a few questions.

I think:

finger grooves means GEN3+

light rail mean GEN2.5+

RTF guns have the weird looking slide serrations

GEN4 has different grip texture, larger magazine release, etc.

You're welcome, that among other things is what TGO is for. ;)

I very well may be mistaken but always thought Gen 2.5 was this:

the 2.5s subcompact do not have the light rail

I didn't think any subcompacts have the light rail

prob not, but I just know the 2.5s didnt. SO Im not saying the gen 3s do, just speaking of the 2 I own

the large frame G30 and G29 have a light rail on Gen 3, for sure

might have been the other way around and the 2.5s have finger grooves and no light rail.

Correct. None of the Subcompact Glocks have rails...

Why would they put a rail on a subcompact? Wouldn't that just make it harder to conceal? I'm not trying to be smart, just seems like a waste to hang a light on a very small pistol , meant for concealment.
