If you've got any specific questions, I'll be more than happy to share my limited knowledge on the subject with you. The JDLawhon link posted by 56FordGuy above is very informative, easy to follow, and accurate.

My father and I make custom holsters for most makes of guns, revolvers and autos. I often use suede or 4-5 oz. domestic leather for IWB holsters. Its holds up well, is very comfortable, and doesn't scratch coatings off guns. If you wanted to make your own instead of buying, you could give me an idea of what type you're wanting to make and I could sent, fax, or email a pattern to you. Just email me a picture of the style you want to make and I'll make up a pattern and send out. I started out making them for fun and now sell regularly & we plan to start attending gun shows this spring in Knoxville. Hope this helps.

Tandy leather would be a good place to start. Thats what I did.

When I got my Kel Tec PF-9, I decided to make my own. Well, half of it is mine, the other half is an Uncle Mike's.

I bought a black mouse pad from Wally World and used that for the backing. I was able to glue and sew the pieces together to come up with this configuration.

Although the PF-9 is small, it is still a pocket-full but it can be carried in the pocket of jeans and pants with standard size pockets. It will not work if the trow are too tight or the pocket is small.

The gun can be accessed readily and it is easier to get out than to put back in but that is the idea, isn't it?

This is the side that faces inward toward the leg.

This is the side that faces out when in the pocket. The dark area is another layer of mouse pad to flatten out the profile so it doesn't print.

good job, I made a similar one for my P32. I started with an eyeglasses case and included a flap that optionally goes over the top to cover the gun in case my pocket isn't deep enough to cover the top.

Seems like the ready-made ones I see sort of like this either don't cover the whole gun, or are flipped around the other way. I've been carrying mine for at least 5 years. May need to make another one.

Here's a custom holster I recently made for a customers Taurus Raging Bull 480. I used 10 oz leather!! The leather is thick and was a pain to mold, but it was lots of fun and it turned out well.

Here are a few pics of an Appendix carry holster I made for my G17 from .080" kydex and a couple Chicago screws. Plan on making a OWB belt slide if I ever get some free time.
