Left-handed holster for right-handed person

Recommended Posts

i'm a newbie when it comes to carrying, and it seems if you carry far enough back (like 5 o'clock), a left handed holster might be easier to draw from. with my right-handed, iwb holster, the base of the handle is pretty much on my spine, and i have to reach almost to the middle of my back to get my hand on the grip. i was thinking if the top of the gun/slide was closer to the spine and the base of the grip closer to the love handle area it would be easier to grasp.

does anyone do this themselves...or know of any reason why it would be a bad idea?

I agree with you. I have wanted to try a left handed holster for that very reason, but don't wanna take a chnace on it not working out and be stuck witht he holster.

i realized a lot of holsters are designed to cant the pistol forward. i guess a left-handed holster would cant the pistol the wrong way?

Several makers recommend an opposite hand holster for small of back carry.

But it needs to straight cant or cross draw cant to work.

The effective and commonly used forward cant that increases concealment and accessibility would be counterproductive is implemented in a an opposite hand method.

I am right handed. One of the most comfortable ways for me to carry is with a cheap, left handed, Uncle Mike's holster in the small of my back. I do not "cant" it and reach for it with my palm out.

This statement may start the "what if you were knocked on your back and paralyzed" responses but this method of carry is very comfortable for me personally. I don't carry that way all the time but it works for the quick "grab the gun and go" times.

I carry with a left handed IWB holster for my right handed draw. The holster I have it almost a pancake type which doesn't tilt the gun forward or backward. It's basically straight up. It's a good place to carry (IMHO) especially after the holidays where the jeans don't fit as loose.

Uncle Mikes makes a inside the pant holster for around 11 bucks. I carry a glock 17 full size in the small of my back left handed holster. Works nicely
